We have found the only case when banning someone from the list for foul language
would be completely undesirable.

Making it so he really can't unsubscribe, on the other hand, would be
very desirable. Are you listening, admins? :-)

SAY WHAT? WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO? HAVE YOU GONE INSANE? IS YOUR MOTHER A
GERBIL? DO YOU KNOW HOW STUPID YOU SOUND WHEN YOU SEND THESE UTTERLY
BIZARRE, VERBALLY ABUSIVE NOTES FROM THE VOID TO AN ENTIRE MAILING LIST OF
PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT? AND USING CAPS ALL THE
TIME INDICATES A LOW INTELLECT (OR IN MY CASE, A PARODY, BUT THAT DOESN'T
BEAR MENTIONING). YOU NEED HELP. NOW GO AWAY AND THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT YOUR
BEHAVIOUR. IS THIS THE BEHAVIOUR OF A STABLE, ADULT MEMBER OF SOCIETY? I
DON'T THINK SO.

The problem seems to be deciding WHAT to use as an eMail
address, it may be case sensitive, so that PHP-DB- does not
work, but php-db- does.

Don't you love standardisation ;) Just like remembering WHAT
button to use for each list to reply to the list :)

Maybe if people were charged a 5000 GBP deposit when they subscribe, which
would only be returnable when they could produce their welcome to the list
message, then they would take more care of that message and may even actually
read it for the useful info that it contains (like how to unsubscribe).

RE: [PHP-DB] hmmm

2003-07-01 Thread Hutchins, Richard
That hardly excuses an obscenity-laden tirade broadcast to thousands of
people who use this list for legitimate purposes every day. I visited your
website and noticed you use PHP to drive it. So I would imagine that you
have benefited from a little of the knowledge exchanged in this forum. Seems
to me you should be just a bit more gracious than this.

And please: To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php

It may take a day for your subscription to be purged. I unsubscribed from
the MySQL list and it took about 12 hours for the messages to completely
stop.

Did you restart apache after the installation ?
You can also try to compile with --with-pgsql=/usr/local/pgsql

   (I have mySQL, too)
Compilation process was great, no errors.
   Nevertheless, next little PHP script:

 /head

 ?php
 $conn = pg_connect (host=localhost port=5432 dbname=test user=postgres);
