user feedback:

the problem was caused by another apache module (mod_auth_mysql) which was linked
against an older version of mysql client libraries I resolved the problem by
recompiling this module. I don't have the problem now (tested with php-4.0.3pl1)

have you experienced this error with newer versions of PHP?

I use the current php-4.0.2-4mdk RPM package from Mandrakesoft (maintainer Jean-Michel
Dault [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

If I do an INSERT or UPDATE in an opened database, mysql_query() always return 0
(false) even if the transaction was successful and the correct values are stored in
the db.

The same problem for mysql_affected_rows(), it return 0 even if there are
1 or more rows altered in the database.

Apache is 1.3.12
MySQL is 3.23.23

I use the ZendOptimizer for php 4.0.2
