Lisandro you are right! I hadnot enabled the lo interface in /etc/network/interfaces The reason being that after a very bumpy dist-upgrade process to wheezy from squueze networking broke due to networking-manager removal and i setup manually without being awere that programs need lo ! (why do the need it really?) Now basket works and gwenview and freeciv! (although i not sure why gwenview need the lo ! :-). Run basket using gdb: $ gdb basket (gdb) run --nofork ... wait for the crash (gdb) thread apply all backtrace and please attach the output of the last command to this bug. Could you please also provide an answer to the other questions? Was the system a freshly installed one? Did you already had some configuration files for basket? Is it the first run of basket, or were you able to run it successfully at least once?
