Package: ffmpeg

File: /usr/bin/ffmpeg

The program assumes a certain kind of terminal or something, and puts
escape sequences into the output to make different colors, and does not
consult $TERM or offer a --no-color option to turn it off.

I however have discovered a workaround:
$ ffmpeg x.flv y.mp3 2>&1|cat

this version has never been been uploaded to debian. please report such
bugs to the distributor where you received the package from.

This is wrong. See the relevant piece of code from libavutil/log.c:

#undef fprintf
static void colored_fputs(int level, const char *str){
if(use_color<0){
#if defined(_WIN32) && !defined(__MINGW32CE__)
CONSOLE_SCREEN_BUFFER_INFO con_info;
con = GetStdHandle(STD_ERROR_HANDLE);
use_color = (con != INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) && !getenv("NO_COLOR");
if (use_color) {
GetConsoleScreenBufferInfo(con, &con_info);
attr_orig  = con_info.wAttributes;
background = attr_orig & 0xF0;
}
#elif HAVE_ISATTY
use_color= getenv("TERM") && !getenv("NO_COLOR") && isatty(2);
#else
use_color= 0;
#endif
}

if(use_color){
set_color(level);
}
fputs(str, stderr);
if(use_color){
reset_color();
}
}

This proves that the detection code as quoted above indeed works.

true.

this however needs fixing upstream. Stefano (CC'ed), since you have the
most experience with FFmpeg Documentation, can you propose a wording for
svn trunk? I can then schedule this and potentially other documentation
fixes for 0.6.1.

You're likely also affected by http://bugs.debian.org/586016. As I stated in
that bug, you need to report this bug to whomever you're getting your package
for libva from.

If this isn't the same issue, feel free to reopen this bug.

Since upgrading to libva1_1.0.1-3_amd64 from
libva1_0.31.0-0.0+sds12_amd64, I am no longer able to play flv or mp4
files in VLC. I have downgraded back to libva1_0.31.0-0.0+sds12_amd64
using "dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archive/libva1_0.31.0-0.0+sds12_amd64.deb",
and it appears to work fine with the older version.

I am no longer able to play flv's at all in VLC. With mp4 files, it
can only play the sound, but I get the following error, and no video
output:

This is a problem with whereever you're getting libva-0.31.0 from. There has
never been a libva-0.31.0 in Debian.

Just so you know, whoever is packaging libva-0.31.0 is likely getting it from
http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauchesne/libva/. The official repo for
libva
is actually http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libva/. gbeauchesne is also an
upstream author for the official repo and has been working on incorporating his
changes from splitted-desktop to the official libva. In fact they've just
released a new version with his changes 4 days ago which I'm soon going to
package.

Ask whoever is packaging libva for whatever archive you're using to package
the latest libva from the official repo.

Bug#586027: closed by Andres Mejia (Re: Bug#586027: mediatomb-daemon: mediatomb fails to start with libva missing error)

2010-06-16 Thread Eric Lavarde

Hi,

I confirm, you are fully right, it's ffmpeg from Marillat which depends
on libavcodec52 which itself depends on libva1 (without version) but
actually relies on an older version of libva1, provided by
debian-multimedia.org but hidden by a new version from Debian.

Fix in case someone reads these lines: downgrade libva1 to an older
version, like:

sudo aptitude install libva1=0.31.0-0.0+sds12

Sorry for the noise,
Eric

Then you need to report the bug to the proper location. There has
never been a libva-0.31.0.6 in Debian.

Get rid of your unofficial FFMpeg packages and see if you can reproduce.

If yes, install vlc-dbg so that the backtrace is useful

It is useful in a way. It gives us one stop overview of all our

packages in Ubuntu & Debian:

https://launchpad.net/~pkg-multimedia-maintainers/+related-software

This way it's easier (at least for me) to track all bugs which affect

our packages and whether or not there are some ubuntu delta on them.

I believe this is an incredible opportunity to improve the quality of
applications in both distributions through coordination by leveraging
Ubuntu's vast bug reporting against Debian's robust developer activities.
