Bug#574180: After uodate to midisport-firmware 1.2-2 behavoir is still the same

2010-08-01 Thread Frank Rocholl
Hello Adrian,

Not sure if you need to restart/reload udev. Also make sure there's no

Yes, you are right. There is a file in /etc/udev/rules.d/.

## CUT HERE ##
musix:~# dpkg -l |grep midisport
ii midisport-firmware 1.2-2

musix:~# dpkg -L midisport-firmware |grep 42-midisport-firmware.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/42-midisport-firmware.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/42-midisport-firmware.rules
## CUT HERE ##

After:
## CUT HERE ##
aptitude purge midisport-firmware
aptitude install midisport-firmware
## CUT HERE ##

the 42-midisport-firmware.rules are in the correct place
ande the device is working fine.

Many Thanks

Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc1-4
Severity: wishlist

When the mplayer package is installed, it comes with a gargantuan man
page. This man page, besides heavily documenting mplayer itself, also
documents mencoder. But mencoder is a separate package and is probably
not installed. So in other words, mplayer installs a large amount of
documentation for a program that isn't there! (This rather surprised
me when I tried to use mencoder - I had assumed that because its
documentation was there, it would be too).

Anyway, the mencoder man page should be factored out of the mplayer
man page because it is less confusing and makes for more tractable man
pages.

Package: mplayer
Version: 2:1.0~rc3+svn20100502-1
Severity: normal

With the latest update, the mplayer package now installes a manpage
for mencoder by symlinking it to the mplayer manpage. I think that's a
bit confusing, since the mencoder command itself is not provided by
the package, and it makes it harder to install a third-party mencoder
package. Please remove these symlinks, unless the mencoder command is
included as well.

Thanks,

Philipp

Hello,

The .pc.in of projectm use a variable which doesn't exist resulting in a empty
libdir. That results in a buggy -L in LDFLAGS.

Attached patch forces libdir=${exec_prefix}/lib . It's not necessarly the best
fix but I don't know CMake enough.

I can commit the patch myself if you like though I'll be away from Internet
from Monday.

All these three look like problems with the buildd host/toolchain.
CSound hangs in a doxygen call that has not been modified since the -1
upload. Trying to build that same documentation in paer gives me
segmentation faults in doxygen in different stages almost every time (I
managed to build it after a few retries).

Of the four tries on the buildds, csound hung in doxygen twice and during
the source build twice, afaics. That and the fact that it needed several
tries on paer suggest that even if we it managed to build after another
attempt or three, the next binNMU or sourceful upload may well have the
same problem(s).

The paer sid chroot does not
have the necessary build deps, so I can't binNMU it myself.

You can, you just need to request that the build-deps be installed.

slv2 hangs in a file copy operation, apparently.

slv2 appears to have suffered from a known problem with waf's parallel
functionality on hppa. The new sourceful upload has built fine on hppa.

Adam

Indeed. How do you suggest working through this? Facts:

1. The build hangs unpredictably on a doxygen call.
2. The doxygen call is in build-indep (so it is not strictly necessary
for binary only builds, but gets executed anyway).

I can move the doxygen call away from there into binary-indep, but that
feels like a hack to me. I have been trying to build the doxygen
documentation a few times, and it looks like either doxygen is doing
something wrong with pthread mutex calls or the hppa kernel/libc are
doing something wrong with the calls doxygen makes. I'm getting some
assertion failures now too:

doxygen: pthread_mutex_lock.c:62: __pthread_mutex_lock: Assertion
`mutex-__data.__owner == 0' failed.

All hangs and segmentation faults seem to happen inside synchronization
calls (futex calls). I have not been able to reproduce the hang in the
Generating docs for compound ... stage.

The paer sid chroot does not
have the necessary build deps, so I can't binNMU it myself.

You can, you just need to request that the build-deps be installed.

Not necessary, since the faulty command (doxygen) is already installed
and I do not plan on working around this bug by manually uploading a
package that will have the same problem again.

Bug#591292: Uninstallable on kfreebsd-i386 and kfreebsd-amd64

2010-08-01 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Package: fluidsynth-dssi
Version: 1.0.0-1
Severity: serious

Justification: holds up testing migration:

 grep-excuses fluidsynth-dssi
fluidsynth-dssi (0.9.1-3 to 1.0.0-1)
Maintainer: Debian Multimedia Maintainers
14 days old (needed 10 days)
fluidsynth-dssi/kfreebsd-amd64 unsatisfiable Depends: dssi-host-jack
fluidsynth-dssi/kfreebsd-i386 unsatisfiable Depends: dssi-host-jack
Valid candidate

Proposed fix: either restrict to linux architectures, or build depend on
dssi-host-jack. This way we can build it as soon as dssi-host-jack becomes
available again.

yes, there has been some movement behind the curtains, as you may have
noticed, mencoder is now in debian. For this reason, I've also uploaded
these three packages in the hope that they are processed soon.

Details will probably be given In the talk How We Can Be the Silver

Bug#591301: ftbfs kfreebsd / no non-linux packages

2010-08-01 Thread Ana Guerrero
Package: hydrogen
Version: 0.9.4.1-1
Severity: important

Until version 0.9.3-7, hydrogen used to build in non-linux arches (hurd-i386,
kfreebsd-{amd64,i386}), with upload 0.9.4-1, a build dependency on
libportmidi-dev was added and since this package is not present in the non-linux
arches, hydrogen can not build in those archs anymore.

I was looking at getting hydrogen built in kfreebsd without port midi support,
but it looks like the scons build system does not support kfreebsd system
anyway:

scons --directory=. CC=cc CFLAGS=-g -O2 -g -Wall -O2 CXX=g++
CXXFLAGS=-g -O2 -g -Wall -O2   libarchive=1 portaudio=1 portmidi=1 lash=1
prefix=/usr optflags=-g -O2 -g -Wall -O2
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
Exception: Platform 'gnukfreebsd8' not supported:
  File /home/ana/hydrogen-0.9.4.1/Sconstruct, line 372:
includes, a , b = get_platform_flags( opts )
  File /home/ana/hydrogen-0.9.4.1/Sconstruct, line 97:
raise Exception( Platform '%s' not supported % sys.platform )
make: *** [debian/stamp-scons-build] Error 2

If this were fixed, I think hydrogen can be built without midi port
support.

So.. if you want the package migrate to testing, you will have to fix this
and get non-linux packages OR ask for removal from the current non-linux
packages and drop totally non-linux support (no very nice option!).

Ana

Just to give a small clarification: hydrogen also has jackmidi, which is
in all ways superior to portmidi. So at least from this point of view,
not having portmidi on non-linux arches isn't really a problem. Au
contraire, it's the better choice anyway.

 scons: Reading SConscript files ...
 Exception: Platform 'gnukfreebsd8' not supported:

I think I can fix this. At least I know why it's broken, so let's see
how far we can get with some tweaks to Sconscript.

So.. if you want the package migrate to testing, you will have to fix this
and get non-linux packages OR ask for removal from the current non-linux
packages and drop totally non-linux support (no very nice option!).

On a side note, I don't think there's at least one hydrogen user out
there running on kFreeBSD. In contrast to Linux, the FreeBSD kernel has
never been tailored to low latency and deterministic scheduling due to
its focus on server machines.

Linux kernel developers have put much effort into realtime scheduling,
many of the RT patches have been integrated into mainline during the
last decade. FreeBSD is nowhere near, so technically speaking, as of
now, it's only second choice for audio production.

However, this won't prevent me from trying my best to get you a working
hydrogen on kFreeBSD. ;)

Here's the hydrogen fix

2010-08-01 Thread Adrian Knoth
Hi!

Find attached a patch which makes hydrogen build on kFreeBSD.

Note that this is not intended to be applied as is, I only post it so
Jonas can integrate it when he finds time. Or I'll do after some hours
of sleep, it's half past midnight here at DC10.

Also keep in mind that we want to conditionally disable alsa on
kfreebsd. I'd also vote for ditching port*, at least on non-linux.
(ditching port* on linux would make sense, too, OTOH, it's unnecessarily
limiting)
