I don't have any problems with that, but feel free to remove me from

near future.

Bug#590545: split plugins/modules from vlc package

2011-02-20 Thread Felix Geyer
 Isn't vlc-nox suitable for your needs?

No, the vlc phonon backend also needs some plugins that
depend on X (e.g. libxcb_*_plugin.so for video output).

Imho a good solution would be to put all plugins that are
currently in vlc (except for /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/gui/*) into
a new package.

Bug#602050: ITP: supercollider -- A real time audio synthesis programming language

  Upstream Author : Lots of people
 * URL             : http://supercollider.sourceforge.net
 * License         : mostly GPL, some BSD, CC-BY-SA-3.0
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description     : A real time audio synthesis programming language

 SuperCollider is an environment and programming language for real time
 audio synthesis and algorithmic composition. It provides an interpreted
 object-oriented language which functions as a network client
 to a state of the art, realtime sound synthesis server.

 OK, status of the supercollider packaging. Here's what I wrote on 4th
 jan (re a patch to add versioning to the soname):

 The patch is in, upstream. What's happening right now is we're
 preparing a 3.4.2 release, which will include this patch. (release
 candidate files are at
 http://sourceforge.net/projects/supercollider/files/Source/3.4.2/)

 The neatest thing is to wait for 3.4.2 official release, then import
 it to the deb-mm repo and tweak the scripts for .so.1. Should be soon!

 Since then, there's been some delay in supercolliderland due to
 debating garbage-collection issues in the development branch. We can
 either wait more, or apply the patch downstream, in which case it
 would I think be ready for others to try? What's the next step once
 we're OK with the packaging?

Since the patch is already applied upstream, and we are likely to wait
a while before 3.4.2 is out, it should be OK to apply the patch
locally to 3.4.1 for now. Please do that, and update the packaging
accordingly.

 Please update the changelog date.

 For shame, I did it again... sorry about that.  It's updated and pushed.
 For some reason when I start a new pkg, I forget to do that.  I guess I
 didn't need to add anything to the changelog, so I didn't run dch.  It
 would be nice to have a changelog mode in emacs that automatically
 updated the timestamp when I edit a debian/changelog even when running
 'emacs debian/changelog', not just 'dch'.

There is dpkg-dev-el, but I'm not an emacs user, so I don't know if it
does that.

 This package should now truly be ready for upload!

Bug#614307: vlc sometimes uses 100% CPU when connecting to lua rc interface using TCP

2011-02-20 Thread Santiago Gimeno
Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.3-1squeeze2
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream patch

Launching vlc with these options:

$ vlc -vvv -I rc --lua-config rc={host='localhost:4212'}

and connecting to the interface, then sending a command and then closing the
connection
without reading the response, makes vlc use 100%. I have tested this with this
simple C
program:

#include sys/socket.h
#include string.h
#include netinet/in.h
#include netinet/tcp.h
#include sys/types.h  /* See NOTES */

int main () {

struct sockaddr_in addr;
memset(addr, '\0', sizeof(addr));
addr.sin_family  = AF_INET;
addr.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr(127.0.0.1);
addr.sin_port= htons(4212);

int fd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0);

int ret = connect(fd, (struct sockaddr *)addr, sizeof(addr));
if (ret == 0) {
send(fd, playlist\n, 8, 0);
close(fd);
}
}

I have found that the problem is in the host.lua file in the _accept_and_select
function.
When testing if there's a POLLIN event it just performs and == instead of a
bitwise AND () and
in the case the remote end closes the connection, the poll could return: POLLIN
| POLLERR | POLLHUP.
This caused that no read was performed and caused the infinite loop.
I've resolved this with the attached patch (apparently lua doesn't support
natively bitwise operations
so I had to do it a bit differently).

I hope this help.

Best regards,

Santi

The code I was trying to build is C++ so this needs to be added before
any inclusion of stdint.h otherwise the code isn't C++ compatible.
