Bug#792259: ffms2: pandoc does not render Markdown properly
Hi Jonas, 2015-07-13 14:56 GMT+03:00 Jonas Smedegaard d...@jones.dk: Would be nice if this issue could (also, separately) be filed as a bugreport against pandoc, documenting what specifically fails. I fully understand if libffms2-dev package maintainers choose to avoid pandoc, but great if the bug revealed by its usage till now could benefit the development of pandoc anyway :-) GitHub-style (```) code blocks are not standardized, so Pandoc has the full rights to not support it. Python-Markdown supports it via a non-default extension. -- Dmitry Shachnev ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Bug#792259: ffms2: pandoc does not render Markdown properly
Quoting Dmitry Shachnev (2015-07-13 13:33:50) Package: libffms2-dev Version: 2.21-2 Severity: minor Pandoc doesn't render the code blocks properly, thus the generated ffms2-api.html is broken. In Ubuntu we fixed this by switching to Python-Markdown [1]. Also, a small patch is needed to make sure the sublist is rendered properly (it is actually needed for both pandoc and Python-Markdown) [2]. I fully understand if libffms2-dev package maintainers choose to avoid pandoc, but great if the bug revealed by its usage till now could benefit the development of pandoc anyway :-) Thanks for considering, - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private signature.asc Description: signature ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Bug#792259: ffms2: pandoc does not render Markdown properly
Hi Jonas, 2015-07-13 15:15 GMT+03:00 Jonas Smedegaard d...@jones.dk: GitHub-style (```) code blocks are not standardized, so Pandoc has the full rights to not support it. Python-Markdown supports it via a non-default extension. Seems indeed it is standardized: http://spec.commonmark.org/0.20/#fenced-code-blocks CommonMark ≠ Markdown (i.e. John Gruber even asked them to change the name). ...so perhaps (if interested in keep using pandoc) simply a matter of choosing the correct flavor of Markdown parsing? Even if it wasn't standardized, pandoc aims to cover a rich variety of Markdown parsing, including several non-standard but popular extensions - so I would expect upstream to be interested in fixing also this one if needed. Please do consider filing a bug against pandoc, even if you do not want to use pandoc yourself in the future. Apparently pandoc has an extension to support such code blocks [1], so no bug needed. [1]: http://pandoc.org/demo/example19/Extension-fenced_005fcode_005fattributes.html Anyway, because of #792287 the switch to Python-Markdown is better anyway. If you want maximum security - disable the UI completely! Account authentication offers simple protection that might hold back your kids, but it is not secure enough for use in an untrusted environment! Note: since the server is meant to be used in a home LAN environment the UI is enabled by default and accounts are deactivated, thus allowing anyone on your network to connect to the user interface. Unfortunately, the Debian/Ubuntu packaging preserves these installation defaults, which IMHO is incorrect behavior for a distribution. A few ways to solve this are: * the web UI should be disabled on new installs * a debconf question should prompt the user to enable the web UI, but default to 'no' * enable the web UI, but create an account for connecting to it Upstream doesn't seem confident in mediatomb's handling of authentication, so it would probably makes sense to not rely on it and simply disable the feature, documenting how to enable it and the pitfalls of enabling it in README.Debian. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers lucid-updates APT policy: (500, 'lucid-updates'), (500, 'lucid-security'), (500, 'lucid') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: mediatomb Source-Version: 0.12.1-47-g7ab7616-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of mediatomb, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. I'm afraid your package fails to build on x32, and blocks a load of stuff because of deep Build-Dependency chains. Here's a fix. I did not bother porting this code, just ripped the whole block away because even the only architecture where it could have mattered (i386) has since changed its minimal requirements to 586 (-march=i586) which is guaranteed to have CPUID. The other x86 architectures (amd64 and x32) are many CPU generations above that. If you disagree with this, you could instead #ifdef this code out on x32 and probably amd64. There's also third way, actually fixing the register width statements, but that would be too much work ☺. Bug#792259: ffms2: pandoc does not render Markdown properly
Quoting Dmitry Shachnev (2015-07-13 21:40:30) 2015-07-13 15:15 GMT+03:00 Jonas Smedegaard d...@jones.dk: GitHub-style (```) code blocks are not standardized, so Pandoc has the full rights to not support it. Python-Markdown supports it via a non-default extension. Seems indeed it is standardized: http://spec.commonmark.org/0.20/#fenced-code-blocks CommonMark ≠ Markdown (i.e. John Gruber even asked them to change the name). CommonMark is a (non-Markdown) standard covered by pandoc. Apparently pandoc has an extension to support such code blocks [1], so no bug needed. Yes, that was my point (I hadn't even heard of CommonMark till looking up if the code blocks supported by pandoc was part of some standard :-) Anyway, because of #792287 the switch to Python-Markdown is better anyway. Makes sense. - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private signature.asc Description: signature ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 791023: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=791023 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: src:dirac Version: 1.0.2-7.1 Severity: important Tags: sid stretch User: debian-...@lists.debian.org Usertags: libstdc++-cxx11 Background [1]: libstdc++6 introduces a new ABI to conform to the C++11 standard, but keeps the old ABI to not break existing binaries. Packages which are built with g++-5 from experimental (not the one from testing/unstable) are using the new ABI. Libraries built from this source package export some of the new __cxx11 or B5cxx11 symbols, and dropping other symbols. If these symbols are part of the API of the library, then this rebuild with g++-5 will trigger a transition for the library. What is needed: - Rebuild the library using g++/g++-5 from experimental. Note that most likely all C++ libraries within the build dependencies need a rebuild too. You can find the log for a rebuild in https://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/gcc5-20150701/ Search for BEGIN GCC CXX11 in the log. - Decide if the symbols matching __cxx11 or B5cxx11 are part of the library API, and are used by the reverse dependencies of the library. - If there are no symbols matching __cxx11 or B5cxx11 in the symbols forming the library API, you should close this issue with a short explanation. - If there are no reverse dependencies, it should be the package maintainers decision if a transition is needed. However this might break software which is not in the Debian archive, and built against these packages. - If a library transition is needed, please prepare for the change. Rename the library package, append v5 to the name of the package (e.g. libfoo2 - libfoo2v5). Such a change can be avoided, if you have a soversion bump and you upload this version instead of the renamed package. Prepare a patch and attach it to this issue (mark this issue with patch), so that it is possible to NMU such a package. We'll probably have more than hundred transitions triggered. Then reassign the issue to release.debian.org and properly tag it as a transition issue, by sending an email to cont...@bugs.debian.org: user release.debian@packages.debian.org usertag this issue + transition block this issue by 790756 reassign this issue release.debian.org - If unsure if a transition is needed, please tag the issue with help to ask for feedback from other Debian developers. The libstdc++6 transition will be a large one, and it will come with a lot of pain. Please help it by preparing the follow-up transitions.
