Well, imagine that...
As per some recommendations, I gave a try to KDE.
As usual, I installed it on VirtualBox, transferred the system to my real
box, fixed up the MBR and booted my shinny new Kubuntu.
And (save some pretty minor annoyances, grounded mostly on differences on

It is amazing - the transformation of computers since my first exposure
in 1983. My first experience was intro to computers - Fortran
programming using punch cards. It was 1985 before I saw a full screen
editor. In 1986 I bought a Commodore 64 that had 64kb of RAM. It was

The most common thing I see done to save money with Linux is build a

is the computer's power costs will exceed the cost of a band new router

Nawh, that wasn't the problem.
I didn't have blank DVDs.
I live in the middle of the boondocks and it is an hour-and-a-half
round-trip journey to go get them.
Of course that if I had known then what I know now...

There are these things called rewritable cd/dvd's when you really need
one, you just write over your least useful disc.
That's pretty much all I buy

After fiddling with it for a day I decided: screw it, I'll go Debian
the only thing that comes with mx14 you've heard of is libre office. The

Since your ranting, I will too...
I really hate seeing people continue to spread that KDE is bloated. It
might have been true in the KDE 3.5 days, but these days it's quite
small. As far as ram usage it

+1 Brian regarding the more efficient distros Been there done that and
spent months hunting for things and tweaking, and finally just gave up and
went back to Ubuntu. I recently changed from Unity to KDE. While I didn't
really hate Unity, I have come to appreciate the additional options and

Brian, your comments (and advice and guidance) are always especially
helpful and very, very much appreciated.
I, too, much prefer KDE and Mint to the many other distros that I have

What a great rant!! I was on my way to look for a video on HULU I

I think Win7 is one of the best OS's ever made. I started with DOS 2.11
and stayed with DOS until 95 when I was forced to use it.
In 2000 I used Linux for 8 months and then went back to Windows.

xbmc is all well and good, but for some folks Netflix can be a show

To me bloat would be a bunch of daemons eating resources to the point of
exhaustion.
I installed KDE (had not done it in years) and seems to hug less resources

Still testing...
