is this something we Linux users need to concern ourselves about? I mean it
affects Android and isn't Android partly Linux?

I hate Unity too...
And/or the M$-like bloated KDE.
Because my long hated (and mostly reliable) Linux Mint went out of support,
I decided to go with what I hate the least: Xubuntu.
But I could not burn the DVD, so I installed it on VirtualBox, transferred
the system to my real box, fixed up
A 'Linux System' is a misnomer, as it is the statement 'Android is partly
Linux'.
Android has a Linux kernel.
'Linux' is only the kernel.
What you call a 'Linux System', is a 'GNU System with a Linux kernel'
Macintosh OS is a 'GNU System with a BSD kernel' (not sure which one, there
are 3 or 4)
Sounds like you should hate DVD drives instead.

Nawh, that wasn't the problem.
I didn't have blank DVDs.
I live in the middle of the boondocks and it is an hour-and-a-half
round-trip journey to go get them.
Of course that if I had known then what I know now...

There are these things called rewritable cd/dvd's when you really need
one, you just write over your least useful disc.

After fiddling with it for a day I decided: screw it, I'll go Debian
the only thing that comes with mx14 you've heard of is libre office. The
file manager and browser I've never heard of before. The windowmanager is
xfce.

I really hate seeing people continue to spread that KDE is bloated. It
might have been true in the KDE 3.5 days, but these days it's quite

I did learn to hate KDE years ago when there were so many things running
under the hood that it killed all performance.
Unity I just can't digest it...
I'll install a KDE virtual and give it a try, I may change my mind!

xbmc is all well and good, but for some folks Netflix can be a show
stopper if it won't run on linux. Had I known about this solution soon
enough, I would have helped one of my students stay converted over to linux
for their home entertainment set up ;)
