[PLUG] Flash problem

2009-01-13 Thread sourav mohanty
Hi all,
Problem with flash in firefox 3 and opera (Linux versions), you can go
to these
URLS: http://www.tatapower.com/ http://ietl.in/
both these websites have drop down menu for one or two entries
but the list hides back of the flash or the flash overrides it.
This problem is not seen in windows version of opera or firefox.
Need some suggessions to overcome the same. Is this a problem
with linux versions browser's or Flash players. Have tried 3 flash plugins.
No solution.

I could see the menu entries fine. I am using firefox 3.0.5, with
flash plugin version 10.0 r12.

I'm also seeing this problem. (In fact, this problem appears in some other
sites as well. I haven't noted such sites as these were not crucial for me).
I'm using Open SuSE 10.3, Firefox 3.0, Opera 9.63 and Konqueror 3.5.7 (using
KDE 3.5.7 Release 72.9). In fact, under Konqueror, the links don't appear
even in the background.

How about setting odbc connection in open office and creating forms there?

You could also use qt. It is easy to program and can natively connect to the
database. You can choose the language binding if your choice.

In some cases, people have used access as frontend to postgres using odbc
connection.

Hi Rajiv,

This might sound like going backwards from your effort - but it *should*
work.

When I get into a situation where I really really need Windows, I use
Virtualbox http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Screenshots with my licensed
Windows copy. Virtualbox works exactly like VMWare but is open sourced. You
can install a full blown Windows inside Virtualbox (which is running inside
your Linux box), use your dongle and finish off the work.

No need for re-partioning/installing - and it works like a charm.
If by any cance you are using Ubuntu, please try out
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox
Simply sudo gem install virtualbox should work.

Please do use your own licensed Windows copy - I, in no way - want or intend
to promote piracy.

Please do write back if you face any issues - I'd be glad to help.

A few native linux options...
GNUCash - http://www.gnucash.org/
KalCulate - http://kalculate.com/

Please do let us know how do these softwares compare against the one you are
using - someone might pick it up as a clue to maybe their next startup :)

Regards,
Mayank

[PLUG] accounting software under Linux

2009-01-13 Thread Kulkarni Shantanu
Hello,
I am looking for a free accouting package under Linux (preferably able to
work on Ubuntu 6.06) with following requirements,

a. easy to use and learn, since I have no good knowledge about accounting. It
need not be a lot fancy since I am managing a simple one-man show.

b. my CA uses Tally, so it would be great if we could exchange data.

kalculate is almost dead and gnucash seems to have a steep learning
curve.
Can anyone having practical experience in such a software suggest any?

Cheers,

That is a wrong solution and should not be considered at all.

pray explain... how does spreading the message of being on the right
side of the (already grayed out) law makes it a wrong solution?

it not, your task will be easy is read as pirate the software and use it,
 which is wrong.

If you meant anything otherwise, I didn't see it. Pray explain.

The basic argument here being the infrastructure should be free मोफत . . .

people will be willing to pay for what they specifically need for
their profession...

OS should be free because nobody will buy hardware otherwise. This
argument has a rather deep meaning... which supports why things came
into existence on Free and OSS front, but that again is a
perception till i say i want to rule the world this way :-)

The difficult scenario, if the CA has both Windows and Tally licensed
it will be difficult for to get to switch because by switching to
Linux he will be writting off him money (the sense of his having
already paid money spent on OS software working for him)..

if this is not simple please say it again and i will grind my brain to
make it simpler
