Use of this product destroyed the newly bought battery! It swelled and had
to be thrown away. May be either the battery or the adapter were bad.

Refusing to work without a battery and not charging it without booting
were blunders by N900 team.

I'm pausing this effort for now. No more feel like buying yet another
battery at least for now.

I have a spare RPI2. I can probably achieve what I was going to try with
N900 with RPI. Will write a separate mail for that.

I have one of these! Was fun to use the phone, I should probably resurrect
it some time and SSH into it just for fun.

Yes. That's the one you get at any mobile accessories shop for some 50-150
rs range. Very useful.

Mayuresh

You are lucky to have Nokia N900 model with you.
I feel their is mainline u-boot and kernel support for this model

Checkout the kernel and u-boot mailing list for more details.

Subject: [PLUG] Advice on reviving Nokia N900

Remember N900? There was such a Linux phone a decade or more ago.

I have one and that is bricked and am trying to revive to put to some use.

Its nothing critical. It will be just nice to be able to revive this good
old device.

First hurdle was to get a new battery, as the previous one is worn out and
swollen, and I was lucky enough to get it. Now to flash the device the
battery needs to be in charged state. Whatever little charge is there on
this new battery, flashing is not happening.

Luckily I know someone with N900 device, but if this battery is put into
his device, his device is also not booting. A strange thing about this
device is, the charger works only if the device boots and the device boots
only if the battery has some charge left. So it is in a deadlocked state.

So, possibly I need a non N900 device that can charge the same battery or
an external charger that can do so. Most small mobile shops around said
they are helpless on this.

Any other suggestions or some specific repair shops that can resolve this?

good luck with the n900. is there a battery model no. written on the old
battery?

id recommend not losing old phones; they have some chance of NOT having
GPS surveillance in them.___

Try some external generic charger. Typically called "khekda charger". You
can connect any mobile battery to it. I had purchased one long time back.
Let me find out one from my khajana !!
