As Alien is working at better quality then I have no problems with
slimpicks. I was just posting for information to those who are trying
to get SC7 totally bug free.
As a boring Brit I enjoy Radio 4. I must try to see what the rest of
the world is doing!!

Menu handling of AlienBBC was re-written which might make it a bit
better as a result of better caching.
No change in the actual streaming - the same mplayer does all the work
and whether it plays smoothly or stutters is still between mplayer,
your ISP and the BBC servers.
SC 7.0 improved synchr
I'm up to date with the latest SC7 build and Alien BBC appears to be
working much better than before??
Is this the latest build or is the BBC streaming stuff better?

OK - I thought so but I wanted to be sure.
mplayer.sh is either in the wrong directory or is not executable by
slimserver.
To see where SC is looking
1. Go to Server Settings/Advanced/Debugging
- set debugging flag os.paths to debug level
- click "save settings"

If it is any consolation - it fails for me too. It look like the BBC
are only using mms and not http. I don't remember this being a problem
before but I am testing with a clean SC 7.0 and no AlienBBC installed. I
think I had set AlienBBC to handle the mms issue.

It looks like it's not a good day to debug BBC streams.
In the meantime I'll lookup the AlienBBC Ubuntu installation.

I've tried 45 secs and if
I am having big problems with the BBC (on Alien) this afternoon, I
suspect that the BBC system is down. I have tried 3 different PCs,
players, SS 6.5.5 and SC7. No joy, I get timeouts.
I haven't looked at the BBC website yet.

I am in the Uk and windows file types is enabled as native.
no change I'm afraid. With slimpicks the right hand side of the skin
allows me press play, the timer runs for 4 secs and then stops,
resetting to 0. No sound appears from the SB.
Softsqueeze still doesn't work. A window appears showing

Slimpicks BBC will only work if you are in the UK and you are using an

I have now got Kubuntu 7.10 running correctly on my machine.
I have downloaded the latest update to Alien BBC into the
usr/share/slimserver folder and untarred it. Bin folder and plugin
folder appears OK.
I have SC7 which runs OK, shoutcast works, but Alien BBC doesn't.

Just fitted my second player. It's wired directly to a Quad 405 and
into some little missions in the kitchen.
Its fantastic having synchroed music throughout the house. If i can get

Not dim - you have come across bug 5718. If you disable a conversion -
SC will not let you enable it.

Please confirm you have RTSP entries in FileTypes and which conersions
are active.
Why is it not using Flac as that is installed by default ?
Did you disable any conversion ?
What player are you using ?

OK - then it looks like it is SC setup.
Try changing the station Timeout - it under
Server Settings->Network->Radio Station Timeout.
Default value is 5 secs - change to something like 30 to be safe.

First, try playing the stations directly with mplayer from a shell
prompt. This will isolate a SC issues from a network one.

I wonder if it is the DNS problem that a few users are reporting.
Enable network.asynchttp to debug level, try a few BBC live stations
and see if there are DNS lookup problem in the log.

Current setup is kubuntu 7.10 rc (don't ask!), I have recently had
Alien working on 7.04.
Squeezecentre is now 7.0 up to date. Alien is the latest build for
SC7.0.
The screen menu appears, but the connection dto the server doesn't take
place. see
