I've just enabled an additional source for cover art - as part of the plugin's coversearch feature. When the plugin is not given cover art by the broadcaster then it goes off to try and find it elsewhere. You probably will not notice anything different but overall the number of tracks that play

That is indeed a quirk of how things are joined together. The plugin is not directly involved in the streaming of the content. All it knows (today) is that the playing is playing or not. When it is playing then the plugin collected the information about what is playing from the remote source

What I did was make a plain text file called testmatch.pl consisting of the code in your first box. I went into Terminal and... ... made it exectuable with chmod +x ... ran it with ./ ... got the output I showed.
