Just an update, for closure. After a great deal of diagnosis, it turned out to be a faulty RAM module. So, not a FreeNAS problem, certainly not a Slimnas one, and not (as it now turns out) a problem with upgrading to LMS. I reformatted my HDD (to remove any trace of anything, just in case),

I tried to update to SlimNAS 2.0.2 and LMS 7.7, but things appear to have gone horribly wrong. Even though SlimNAS 2.0.2 seemed to install fine, as did LMS 7.7 - leastways, Logitech Media Server appeared in the FreeNAS 'Extensions' menu - Squeezebox just wouldn't start up. I then tried rolling
