The next version (already submitted to the appstore) brings context
menus (where you can also browse info about the current playing song).
Also basic playlist control (the default menu from the Touch which
allows clearing and saving the playlist).

I never tried the biography plugin, will try to have a look for the
next version.

Almost 24 hrs and the web UI still reports that the CustomTag scan is
running (and yes I have refreshed the page). Nothing new regarding
CustomScan in the server.log (and I double checked that information
level logging is enabled for CustomScan). Mysql and SqueezeSvr shows
low activity, 1-2% CPU use respectively.

There must be something wrong. This is way slower than on the old PC
which was less powerful. Any ideas?

Assuming Custom Scan only runs Rating Tag and Custom Tag scanning
module this seems like a disk access problem. Are the music files
stored on a local hard drive or on a NAS or something similar where the
network could cause performance problem when accessing the files ?

If you are using some of the other scanning modules, like MusicIP
import/export or LastFM or Amarok import/export they might slow down
the scanning, you should be able to see on the status in the Custom
Scan settings page which scanners are actually running. LastFM scanning
module is intentionally slowed down to comply with the LastFM license
which only allows a specific number of calls per second. The same
situation also exists with the Amazon scanning module which no longer
is part of the latest Custom Scan distribution due to Amazon API
changes.

The info level logging intentionally doesn't long much during the
scanning, it just logs stuff when the scanner changes phase, for
example when it does the refresh, delete old data and similar stuff.
The reason is to avoid huge log files, if you want more logging and
want to see what's going on, you can temporarily enable debug level
logging on plugin.customscan and look in the log files, you should
then be able to see if it's scanning tracks or doing something else.
Note that debug level logging will result in large log files, so just
have it enabled during a short time. You can change the logging while
it's scanning, you don't have to interrupt the scanning for it to take
effect.

Just out of interest, have you tried doing the MySQL optimizations
mentioned in the following thread, it feels like it should have huge
effect on the performance in a large library like yours.
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60682

Another thing to look at is the memory consumption on the computer,
maybe it's running out of primary memory and is using the swap file ?
Although, it feels like this should result in higher CPU usage than
1-2%.

Is there some other process taking up all CPU ?

The optimized MySQL my.tt is not loaded at the moment (there was an
update of SBS 7.5.2 and I forgot to replace that file after the
update). Win XP is set to prefer services over programs.

The PC has 4GB RAM and the process monitor reports only some 1,2GB
allocated and a top allocation of 2,8GB. SqueezeSvr has in excess of
500MB.

No other processes are taking up CPU, only MySql 1-2%, SqueezeSvr 1-2%
and Systemets vänteprocess the rest.

If you look in the log for rows which message part starts with
Scanning track: , you can look at the timestamps to see how long it
takes to scan a single track. Based on this you can calculate the total
scanning time by multiplying it with the total number of tracks.

I'm not sure if the log contained all entries between two Scanning
track: rows but if it did it means that a single track takes about
2/100 of a second, which means that it should be able to scan about 50
tracks per second if my math is correct. With the 115024 tracks which
your database seems to contain this should result in a scanning time
around 40 minutes plus a few minutes for the refresh and delete
operations in the beginning.

So based on this it sounds like it should have been finished a long
time ago.

Try searching in the log for Performing rescan or Performing module
rescan, maybe there is some cycle so it continues to run the scanning
multiple times ?

Custom Tag scanning module reads all tracks and print their values when
debug logging is enabled, it will only store the tags which you have
configured it to store.

I suspect this might cause part of the differences, the optimized my.tt
usually gives big improvements in larger libraries on computers with lot
of memory. As an example, it might mean that the scanning itself is
pretty fast but there is some of the SQL statements executed in the
beginning or end that takes a lot of time without the optimized my.tt
file.

Possibly the tag mapping logic might also cause some performance
problems but I suspect it doesn't as it's only perl code and no extra
data access.

As of yesterday there were only two instances of Performing rescan or
Performing module rescan:

Code:

[10-07-21 09:22:35.5261] Plugins::CustomScan::Scanner::fullRescan (695)
Performing rescan
  [Snip]
  [10-07-21 09:33:22.6524] Plugins::CustomScan::Scanner::moduleRescan (741)
Performing module rescan

The log including those values is attached. I also attach a file with
everything logged with debug level logging switched on. It seems that
both CustomTag and RatingTag is actually running although the web UI
reports that only CustomTag is running. As I said I tried your method
for having a simultaneous scan first but as the web UI did not indicate
that anything was running I clicked manual scan for only CustomTag.

I will stop SBS now and replace my.tt and try again. I must also
restore my TrackStat data and suspect that it also will take a long
time although I have manually corrected the paths.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2010-07-22 Thread ajkidle

Many thanks to BoomX2 for your work to revive this plug-in. I hate to
be nit-picky, but I'm still having problems. I used the .par file you
posted on the 19th and am now getting data. However, the formatting
has changed.

Specifically, on my Boom I'm using the %z flag on second of the 3-line
display. It used to show as HI 86, but now it's showing HIGH
86. The longer text is causing everything to be offset and forces the
primary data on the 2-line display (%t %1) to scroll. I hate
scrolling.

How hard is it to change this kind of formatting stuff? I may try to
crack open the .par file later, but I'm new to this so I'm not
anticipating much success...

Thanks again to everyone who has worked on this.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Interfacing Squeeze devices to, e.g., HD radios

2010-07-22 Thread JKoltner

Hello,

I'm mainly a hardware guy but I do have enough programming experience
to be dangerous, and I was curious if someone could provide some advice
on what would be required to connect the various newer Squeezebox
devices (I have a SB Duet and a SB Radio) to something like an HD
radio. The radio in question has an RS-232 serial port on it that
allows me to change channels, query the current title/artist, look at
the signal strength, etc. It then additionally has regular analog
stereo outputs, and I might be able to get at an optical digital audio
output or even some I2S digital data streams internally.

I've done some reading in the Wiki, at it appears that building a
plug-in for the SB Controller or SB Radio amounts to writing some Lua
code that's running on a Squeezebox Server (my own SB Server is running
Linux). For menu generation, title/artist updates, etc., it looks like
the Lua code would talk to the RS-232 port on the radio through some
sort of timer or button-based events and call the appropriate Jive
methods. Is that correct? -- That Lua code running on the SB Server
calls Jive methods, and the SB Server software then figures out how to
display the results via the web interface or on any particular piece of
hardware?

Next, then, is the streaming audio itself. I didn't find nearly as
much information on this in the Wiki, so could someone tell me... is
the idea that you stream the audio data over, e.g., a pipe or shared
file or similar to the SB Server and it then routes it to the receiving
device? Or do you end up routing the streaming audio directly to the
receiving devices using, e.g., UDP or similar via TCP/IP (after the
server tells you the IP address and port to target)? Is there a
comprehensive list somewhere of what CoDec format the streaming audio
needs to be in anyway? -- Can it be as simple as a .WAV file (just raw
audio samples), or does it need a wrapper of some type?

Thanks so much for your help; pointers to documentation I've overlooked
are just as good as direct answers.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SqueezeControl for Android announcement and support thread

2010-07-22 Thread cjbrooker

Hi,

Any chance of getting this to work for the HTC Wildfire? It has a
screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels which is the same as the Experia
X0 Mini.

I wouldn't mind being a beta tester if you need one!
The app looks great and gets great reviews so I'd be stoked to see it
working on my Wildfire!

A cool feature I would enjoy is starred tracks. My current workaround
is to have a duplicate playlist that I dump all my starred tracks
 into.

Looking at this, but can't make it show what is in the currently
starred tracks list reliably at present... I was planning to just show
the existing starred list as another playlist - is this what you were
asking for?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

Specifically, on my Boom I'm using the %z flag on second of the 3-line
display. It used to show as HI 86, but now it's showing HIGH
 86.

 ...

I noticed the same issue on my Booms. The attached gotWeather.txt
fixes the HIGH vs HI issue on Booms. It also grabs the nowcast
narrative text for US locations. (i.e. - the text that starts with
something like Through 4AM)

Fixing the HIGH vs HI issue in gotWeather keeps LOW from being
shortened to LO on Boom displays. The attached drawEach.txt fixes
that. As with the gotWeather file, use drawEach.txt to replace the sub
drawEach in your plugin.pm file.

The file ending in .pdf contains all 3 changes. Same as before rename
it to .par

I only have Booms to test on, so I do not know if these changes mess
with the HIGH LOW text displayed on other squeezeboxes.

Hopefully Greg will be back soon to provide a cleaner more efficient
solution for all.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2010-07-22 Thread vagskal

Attached is for your information an information level log of the
TrackStat restore I did. The restore was done when a CustomTag scan was
running (and it is still running...) but SBS and the PC running it were
otherwise not doing anything. The modified my.tt was used.
