Also tried it on my Wandboard Quad using the armv6hf binary (I also
tried the static binary too) and although the plug-in installed I
couldn't get the bridge to start.

Yes, it is possible to access the url from webbrowser. Downloaded the
spk file from browser and installed the file manually. LMS 7.9.0 is up
and running now and it seems to work.

accepted by the player or your firewall is blocking something (probably
