That 16 second delay was really exceptional. Now more like 4 secs,

Sorry it's been a while, I've tested all three of those options in the
file types menu; thus far none of them get Spotty to make any sound
still;
With the -Spotty/Flac- option enabled I get the playhead advancing but
with no sound, web interface reports the content is: 705kbps CBR, Ogg
Vorbis

overall resource use and increases streaming reliability, at least over
raw PCM.

Yeah, seemed so. Used the highest speed for that.
Lowered to Throttled and processor use down to 12-16 %.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Maybe it's a keeper, then, but dunno if the Tidal searches are as good
as on Tidal itself.
