I just stopped postfix and dovecot, then cleared the logs then restarted postfix and dovecot. The status of postfix says active (exited). The status of dovecot says: active (running) syslog Dec 6 12:48:45 softlinksys systemd[1]: Started Dovecot IMAP/POP3 email server. Dec 6 12:48:45

>From what you post here, I have an impression that you have multiple problems and are trying to solve them all at once, which usually never succeeds. Try to debug and solve one thing at a time. First, make sure that DNS records are actually correctly set up and point to the correct hosts.
