An external connected to the serial port will be a lower cost option, as the PCMCIA
expansion modules are made from unobtanium.

lines running down the middle and I am forced to restart with
the three finger salute. This PB has had OS X 10.2.6 on it before but I
reformatted and went back to OS 9. What is the deal???

Boot into OS9 (8 might work too), then boot into OSX, and that should fix it until you
powerdown again.
If it isn't remembering the date time, and also has trouble with powerup from
battery, then your PRAM
The pismo runs OSX very well (I'm using my pismo right now with OSX 10.2 and airport).
