Identifying a Powerbook

2004-12-01 Thread Cliff Rediger
A friend's PowerBook HD died and as he is upgrading to iMac I may inherit it. He says it is a G3 but doesn't know more. Numbers on the back read: 14.1TFT/233MHz-512K/32MB/2GB HD/4MB video/CD/Modem. I can make sense of everything but the 14.1TFT. Does this number ID the PowerBook? Thanks. Cliff --

I can make sense of everything but the 14.1TFT. 14.1-inch Thick-Film Transistor display - ie an active-matrix LCD. Sounds like a Wallstreet, but I'm a PB1400 person so don't take my word for it. I'm sure someone will be along in a moment... -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/

Cliff, Sounds like you have a WallStreet. http://lowendmac.com/pb2/g3-guide.html But I'm only looking at the mhz column on that page. Peter On Dec 1, 2004, at 7:33 AM, Cliff Rediger wrote: A friend's PowerBook HD died and as he is upgrading to iMac I may inherit it. He says it is a G3 but doesn't

14.1TFT is the screen size. This is a 14.1 screen PowerBook Wallstreet II (with cache). TFT means active-matrix. It's the higher quality of the two types of screens (the other being passive matrix). On Dec 1, 2004, at 9:33 AM, Cliff Rediger wrote: A friend's PowerBook HD died and as he is

Cliff, I believe 14.1 is the screen size. Later, Dennis On 1-Dec-04, at 9:33 AM, Cliff Rediger wrote: A friend's PowerBook HD died and as he is upgrading to iMac I may inherit it. He says it is a G3 but doesn't know more. Numbers on the back read: 14.1TFT/233MHz-512K/32MB/2GB HD/4MB

Thanks for all the responses. Seems as if the PB in ? is a Wallstreet. I'll have to wait to get my hands on it make sure. Any special recommendations or caveats regarding purchasing an upgrade replacement HD: size limits, speed etc. Thank you Cliff -- PowerBooks is sponsored by

Any special recommendations or caveats regarding purchasing an upgrade replacement HD: size limits, speed etc. Best deal around these days is a Samsung 40 GB for around $79. I installed one in a WS I/292, and I bought a second for installation in a Kanga. These are fast, FDB (flud dynamic
