with the field (box) on the left outlined in blue. I cannot select anything or
enter text. I can't click into the Description field or the field on the right

Maybe the problem is that I don't have a green plus in my Text Signatures
window. So no way to add any signatures.

There is the text-signature pop-up in the lower right of the compose
window; you can also choose a default signature under Setup Mail
