Re: [PEDA] Delphi V6 vs. Protel SDK
Thanks to all who replied, I had a quick look at the Borland web site on the weekend (mainly to see what the difference was between the personal and professional versions) and they seem to still have Delphi V5 Personal available for free download. Seeing the free version of Delphi in the magazine, I thought it might be worth having a go at writing some simple servers (when I find the time) I don't have an urgent need, I just thought I might have a play. So you are left in a position that you are trying to source an out-of-date compiler. You could try ringing Borland (local office) - sometimes old version are still available. Or try something like www.recycledsoftware.com. Re: [PEDA] Delphi V6 vs. Protel SDK
Not really. Usually you get the source for the third-party components, especially when you pay for it. It is Protel's responsibility to provide source or up-to-date components. For older projects however it doesn't makes sense to upgrade them to the latest version. Being Delphi programmer myself, I have a lot of projects still in D3, since changing a line or two doesn't justify porting to a newer version. D5 isn't really out of date. It is the most stable so far. I consider D6 being trial until I know it is stable. That takes a few projects. Rene Ian Wilson wrote: I gather not - at least this is what I was told by Protel. [PEDA] Delphi V6 vs. Protel SDK
Re: [PEDA] Delphi V6 vs. Protel SDK
If Delphi 6 is going to work, the personal version is sufficient. You cannot write commercial software with it and some database stuff is missing. Re: [PEDA] Delphi V6 vs. Protel SDK
The current SDK is compatible only with Delphi D5. This is because the interface to Protel is provided as a precompiled runtime package that is compiler specific. The entry level Delphi 5 package should be sufficient for most kinds of Protel server development. Check the Borland web site for limitations.
