another idea if you have a copy is to try autosketch
it's pretty cheap
also maybe camtastic
as i mentioned R14 got real uppity about itself

R14 did some funny and IMHO non-standard things, i think the older and
newer versions of ACAD are more compliant

Now I have AutoCad Release 14 and it won't read the dxf that Protool
