Well, I remember Protel v2.8 just like it was yesterday.  And it was,
practically.  I upgraded from v2.8 to 99SE late last year.  Skipped PCB 3.X,
even though they gave it to me free - too many bugs.

v2.8 will not load JOB files.  You need to save it in PADS ASCII.  Too bad
it won't save.  You may be stuck with having to load it as Gerbers.

The only other thing I can suggest is finding someone with a slightly later
version of PADS.  Maybe they can load your JOB file and export it as ASCII.
