Subject: [PEDA] PADS conversion

 Hello all

I have two very old PADS files dating back to 1996 not even sure what
PADS
versions these are in , either Perform or Works. I only have PADS from
2.0 up which will not read these PADS job files. I need to get the
ASCII
conversion for these files so that I can then read them into 99Se, any
help out there to convert these to ASCII?

Re: [PEDA] PADs conversion

2001-09-17 Thread lloyd . good

Hello all,
Has anyone had any success in converting old (versions 2 3) PADs files
into Protel?
We have a company that we purchased whose old files are in these formats and
need some conversion utility to do many file conversions.
Please advise.

Re: [PEDA] PADs conversion

2001-09-17 Thread Bagotronix Tech Support

Lloyd:

If you mean the old PADS-PCB for DOS, here is how I have done it in the
past.

First, you need the PADS files to be saved in ASCII format. There is a
File, Save, Ascii, All option in one of the menus. If the files you have
are not saved in ASCII, then you must get the PADS program and dongle, start
PADS up, load the PCB binary file, and do the ASCII save action.

Once you have saved the PCB as ASCII, you can open it in Protel 2.8 or 3.X.
I have never tried to do this in any version of Protel PCB later than 3.2,
so I don't know if it is supported in later versions. Once you get it into
v2.8 or 3.X, you can then bring it forward to 99SE or whatever. The PADS
import into Protel is usually painless.

I hope they still have their old PADS software and dongle! I hope you still
have your old versions of Protel! Never throw away old software!

Best regards,

Re: [PEDA] PADs conversion

2001-09-17 Thread Michael Reagan

Lloyd,
We have converted about 200 PADs files in the past several months. Of the
few that I actually used, the only massaging we made was manufacturing
design rules and gnd plane assignment. Very minor problems. The
conversion process, as close as I can tell is seamless. You will need to
start with the PADS ascii formats, not the pcb file
