Well, i didn't noticed that the extracting-dialog remains in german,
even on non-german PCs, but i will check this (Sorry Karl, this means in
the worst case we'll have to replace the *.exe another time).

After having done the extraction (by clicking on 'Weiter'), you should
easily find the Setup.exe which will start with an english interface.

Sorry for this - Thomas

I didn't see an ISO for the current version of proTeXt. There's no
mention of it on the web page .

The situation had been in flux for a while, just now resolved. Happily,
now the ISO's are available from a couple of sites, including Thomas'.
I added links to the web page.

Thanks,

This is as far as I got. When I double-clicked the
self-extracting *.exe, I got a dialog in German. I did
not try to complete the extraction.

so could you describe a little bit more precisely, how you've started
the installation? Under normal circumstances,

- you'll download the selfextracting *.exe, and extract the content by
double-clicking on that file, which unpacks the content in a fresh
"ProTeXt"-directory,

- you'll double-klick on the Setup.exe inside that "ProTeXt"-directory
which will lead you to the main installation-window in which you can
choose the desired installation language (at the moment english, german,
french or italian).

for which it might be the best solution to grab the iso-file and burn it
directly to CD.

Hi James,

Why is the install dialog in German?

Somehow I thought that the first thing it did was ask what language you
wanted to use. I know the main pdf installation document is available
in English (protext-install-en.pdf), so if you can just get to that
point, you should be ok.

Thomas, can you shed any light?

And how can I get a copy of ProTeXt in English?

There aren't any different versions. This was intended to be usable in
several languages.

Sorry for the trouble,
Karl

I didn't see any dialog to that effect, sorry.

If it were just me, I could limp by, and I can even
somewhat decipher the dialog. Unfortunately, I'm
trying to set up a CD that others in the office can
use if interested, so that's not so helpful.

[protext] Installation dialog in German?

2007-03-02 Thread James J. Ramsey
At least if I recall correctly, I downloaded my copy
of ProTeXt from a mirror in the United States (though
I forget which one). Not sure if this is significant,
but I downloaded at home on a Mac, burned to a CD, and
attempted an install on my Windows box at my office at
university. (I'm a grad student, FWIW.)

Why is the install dialog in German? And how can I get
a copy of ProTeXt in English?
