hmm, did you look, whats actually inside the directory C:\Program
Files\MiKTeX 2.8\tpm?

I.e. is the directory empty, is there probably a file beginning with
miktex_freetype2, but a truncated end, or something similary?

[protext] MikTex Installation Error

2009-12-20 Thread Joe
Hello,

This is my first exposure to Tex. I am excited to learn and try to create
some documents on my own. However the installation process has had an error
or two in it. I downloaded ProTex from the following link.

http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/CTAN/systems/windows/protext/

I chose the file
ProTeXt-2.2.1-102109.exehttp://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/CTAN/systems/windows/protext/ProTeXt-2.2.1-102109.exe.
No surprises there.

I open the setup file. I read through it twice. I follow the installation
process. I chose the basic package.

Miktek is installing and then I get an error. Ok, let's try it again with
the complete package: a different error this time.

The errors were:

The operation could not be completed for the following reasoin:

Windows API error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

Details : C:\Program Files\Miktex
2.8\tpm\packages\miktex_freetype2-bin-2.8.tpm

The operation could not be completed for the following reasoin:

Windows API error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

Details : C:\Program Files\Miktex 2.8\tpm\packages\animate.tpm

Did I download a faulty copy? Is the solution here to get another download?

-Joe

P.S. I created a different directory \...2.8.xo, then I ran the download a
third time. I received a new error. xo
