Not sure if its what you want, but, on my system at least, varifi also changes
pitch, rather like a record slowing.
I have read what you want wrong, but seems like you are mor after a gradual
slow down, which you can write in as tempo information.

Make a selection in your audio track and then go to AudioSuite Pitch Shift
submenu, then choose Vari-Fi.
The default is for it to slow down.
The length of the selection determines how long it takes to get down to stop.
It works pretty good.
