Many thanks, that's really helpful. A couple of notes in case it helps
anyone. To get that to work, on this system at least, you need to disable the
Mission Control Shortcut keystrokes, even though it looked as though they were
set to shift up and down arrows.

Understood. Two things you might want to consider: If you update the elements
the Applications Manager is alerting you about, the notifications will cease
and, alternatively or even in addition, you can stop the notifications from
coming up from the OS. That said, following the
Yes Slau, there is much more accessibility but when booting the system it takes
to long until the Avid app manager becomes quiet.
