Anita - thank you for working on the splash-screen.
@Matthias and @Marco: you can blame me for suggesting the modern
Swisstopo map rather than the Dufour or Siegfriedmap. I personally think
we can be proud of the current Swisstopo map - and as Larry said -
besides the cliff drawing I believe
I am quite happy with using the map we have. In the past we have used an
array of different images so I think this is fine.
IMO we should stick to the design that Anita has done up as it looks really
modern and will good for the product.

Personally Im not a fan of the halo 3D looking QGIS and wording. I would
be keen to see a solid wording but with a bit of transparency so it's not

on the splash screen no affiliated in any way with QGIS ..
the splash screen is the first thing users see ..
and therefore they would probably think that QGIS is produced by
swisstopo .. not a good idea

To me that is getting there. I would have the blue of Version 2.0 Dufour
bit a slightly different blue but I prefer that flat look to anything 3D
looking. To me it's just cleaner.

represent one of the many changes in qgis 2.0

The problem is that the mountain called Dufourspitze is not yet on the
maps that Dufour initiated/created. It was only named after his name.
So - we could either use one of the old maps
the square ones, very nice indeed and super packaging. I thought about it
but i don't think it would be an issue.
