Perhaps you could place the labels using an expresions in coordinates X and
Y.
In your expresion you can use any vertex from the line
you can count number of vertex and locate your label in the vertex that you
want... or proportional to numbers of vert

Uwe - thanks for raising this issue it is important that attention is drawn
to important issues.
I have experienced issues with purchased products as well though.
I still consider QGIS to be an outstanding program and linked through to
databases I have experienced no issues with the LTR release.

Regarding GDAL update to version 2.0: if your platform is Windows, I
already asked Jürgen if he can update to version 2.0 - as there are
other issues/new functionality that would be enabled by moving to GDAL
2.0 (like better Geopackage support, curve support (for Interlis and

simple but really important workaround. Abandon shapefile definitively
or use it only as interchange format.
