Hello Bo et al,
Thanks very much. I upgraded to 3.16.4 with some improvement. Fields in
the source but not present in the target were lost.
However, the Refactor tool worked well. By making field names identical
in the source and the target I was able to append new records to the
master
Hi Springer
You could try joining the databases using a common field assuming the
second one does not have new point features. However, I expect you are
adding new point features.
In that case, I usually write a little python script to generate a new
set of features in the update layer
You can use processing algorithm "refactor fields" on the layer(s) that
have fields to be changed. This operation will give you a temporary
file/layer the same number of columns and -names as the original layer,
but with column type(s) redefined by you.
Afterwards you can merge the temporary
It looks like I have:
QGIS version
3.10.10-A Coruña
Would I need a higher version? Thanks . . . . .

Thanks Bo,
I tried a sample run but it failed:
"TAG field in layer Tree Table All 2 PntType has different data type
than in other layers (String instead of integer)
Execution failed after 1.20 seconds"
It looks like it can't handle differing data types and won't offer
choices for merging
Menu "Vector" -> "Data management tools" -> "Merge vector layers"
Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards

Hello All,
I have a master database (point shapefile) of trees to which I need to
add new records frequently. The two files have different (but similar)
attribute lists. I need to combine them and add the new attributes into
the appropriate SHP database columns.
