Hi Donald,

Try Project, Layout Manager and then create a new layout. That’s should get you
started. Also to change the page size…Right click on the page, Page Properties
and set up a custom page with the dimensions required

followthhis path: Projects -> Layouts -> Composer Manager -> Print Composer.
In my version there is no Composer Manager or Print Composer in any menu I can

Configuring fails here:

Re: [Qgis-user] gvsig?

2019-11-12 Thread Nick Hopton
I have gvSIG installed, solely because out of the box it can read ECWs and
export them as geotiffs (which I can use in QGIS). It wouldn't be right for
me to make comparisons between QGIS and gvSIG because I just don't have
enough experience of using the latter.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 3.4.2 & 3 still very slow to work in Windows 10

2019-11-12 Thread Jason Carlson
Hi David, I'm new to the list so missed your previous communications but
I've been using QGIS for about a year now. Here is a bit of my experience
of moving to 3.4 from 2.8, hopefully it might be of use. I apologize if
this is stuff you already tried as I didn't read back the history. When I
moved from QGIS 2.8 to 3.4 back around Feb-March of this year, mine started
hanging a lot and without any consistency on what I was doing at the time
it would hang. It was also now crashing everytime I closed QGIS as well as
more frequently while actually using it. I found 3 issues that fixed my
problems.

For me, what was causing the huge stalls every now and then, was an issue
with my file storage. My project file was saved in a Google Drive folder. I
knew it wasn't recommended to do this but I wasn't actually sharing it with
others so the only changes were at my end so nothing should be locking the
file at the other end. I also had them flagged for offline use so the
system always kept them locally stored. I liked that by saving them in
Google Drive I had versions of every change I made I could roll back too if
I messed something up. Running it in this way on 2.8 never seemed to be an
issue. As a side note, I only looked into this because I know ArcGIS didn't
perform well at all if I tried saving any of the files in a Google
Drive/Dropbox folder. I added a second hard drive and moved all my projects
into it and the performance issues completely went away.

The crashes however continued to happen and each update I installed seemed
to make them more frequent. Sometimes I couldn't open a project at all but
discovered if I opened it with QGIS last time, if I used QGIS with GRASS it
would open it and the next time it did this I couldn't open it with the
GRASS version anymore but I could with the regular version. Eventually one
day I came into work and I could open QGIS but not my main project (not in
either normal or with GRASS). I couldn't even open older versions of it. As
I could open new or other old projects without issues, I started wondering
if perhaps the previous hanging issues caused by having it on a shared
drive caused some level of corruption that newer versions of QGIS just
couldn't handle gracefully. I eventually just rebuilt my project completely
and the stability issues while using QGIS went away. I'm glad I kept a text
file that I copied all my complex formulas/expressions into for backups.
However, it would still always crash when I closed QGIS but it was saving
the project safely.

The crashing on closing issue was resolved by accident while resolving
another issue I had when I upgraded to 3.10 (or possibly a later version of
3.8) where zooming to a point location took me way off the map (didn't do
that previously). Someone pointed me in the direction to look at what EPSG
I was running my project as. I was using one that the former GIS person
used, which was commonly used by higher levels of government in my region
years ago so that was often our starting point. Reading up on the specs it
didn't seem to be as compatible with some others. Turns out by changing to
a different more common EPSG (still for my region), not only did those
zooming to a point issues go away, it also no longer crashes when I close
QGIS.

Also using this different EPSG with QGIS 3.10 it opens my project in about
5-7 seconds now (fastest previously was about 20 seconds which was still at
least 6 times faster than ArcGIS).

Hope something in this is useful.

xenial's GDAL is too old. QGIS3 at least needs GDAL2. You can use

 Hi,

Try zooming on the data. It is quite possible that the data it there

This is normal, the crs is not save in dxf. Is the crs in longitude and
latitude (degrees) or in meters? If it is in long lat, that may cause
additional problems. Reproject and save it in QGIS in a local utm zone in

What CAD are you using? Try DraftSight. It is free in 2D but not OpenSource.
Did you find a zoom to layer function in the CAD. It is very hard to find the
lines manually.

AutoCAD programs have a tendency to open the file either zoomed out or
zoomed away from our zone of interest. Ex. Your lines are in Canada but
the files open in France. You need to find your data. Zoom in, zoom out
or pan until you find it. Sometimes, you have a function saying « zoom to
layer extent ». If that does not work, try to find your data looking at
 coordinates system.

Don’t forget to do a « reply all » so that the user groupe can profit from
 the conversation.
 Hope this helps

 Hi,
You can only save a layer file to dxf, not a project file. Try
selecting a layer file and saving that. Then reopen in QGIS before
testing in other software. Share the layer file and the exact steps
followed if that does not work.

[Qgis-user] Installing QGIS- 3.4.x Madeira LTR for Ubuntu xenial

2019-11-12 Thread Rosa Lago

Good afternoon,

I have a question about  QGIS- 3.4.x Madeira LTR for Ubuntu xenial.
Today I installed this version in my computer. I added the lines:

deb https://qgis.org/ubuntu-ltr xenial main deb-src
https://qgis.org/ubuntu-ltr xenial main

_to the repositories in the source list._

However, when I execute QGIS, instead of version 3.4 Madeira, I find:
QGis 2.18.28 Las Palmas. Did I do something wrong? How could I get
version 3.4?

Thanks a lot

Rosa.

[QGIS-it-user] impostazioni di progetto

2019-11-12 Thread Ruggero Bonisolli
Buongiorno.

I removed the SHA from the already-built list - so next turn it should consider
the existing state as new and build.

Hi Boaz, sorry if you already said, I haven't gone back to check the whole

the same as the background colour in your cad? Can you try changing the
background colour? Or zooming extents and drawing a selection box filling

The nightly is only rebuilt when there are source changes, but there probably

[Qgis-user] PREOBLEMI DI LAYOUT DI STAMPA CON CTR MULTISCALA

2019-11-12 Thread Marcello Turroni
Salve,
multiscala?*
*grazie*

Jürgen, just to be sure i understand what's happening, that means that 3.4

right? Given that gdal 2.4 is replaced with 3.1. Not a big deal. Just want

Re: [Qgis-user] export to dxf problem

2019-11-12 Thread Andreas Neumann
Hi Boaz,

The information you provide is unsufficient. You need to be more
specific.

Does Autocad issue an error message when you try to open the file? If
yes - what is the error message?

Have you tried other CAD software? There are plenty of them out there,
including free ones.

If you open the DXF file in a text editor, does it look like a complete
file or is it somehow truncated?

The fact, that the opening of the exported DXF file in QGIS again seems
to work, means that the file isn't totally broken.

What happen is that when importing back the dxf file to the qgis it appear as x entities and appear with not the right crs and so i see nothing. And then in changing again the crs ( to what i saved it at the first place ) i see it fine.
But the sane file on cad is aot seen .
I hope thats cane clear

AutoCAD programs have a tendency to open the file either zoomed out or zoomed away from our zone of interest. Ex. Your lines are in Canada but the files open in France. You need to find your data. Zoom in, zoom out or pan until you find it. Sometimes, you have a function saying « zoom to layer extent ». If that does not work, try to find your data looking at coordinates system.

Don't forget to do a « reply all » so that the user groupe can profit from the conversation.
Hope this helps

What you mean zooning on the data ?

Hi,

Try zooming on the data. It is quite possible that the data it there but that the file opens very far away from the data. That is a common problem with CADs.

Hi,
You can only save a layer file to dxf, not a project file. Try selecting a layer file and saving that. Then reopen in QGIS before testing in other software. Share the layer file and the exact steps followed if that does not work.
