Re: [Qgis-user] Win7 with Roaming App Data and Profile Redirection - [ERROR] Can not make qgis.db private copy

2019-07-08 Thread Hillers Heather

I started QGIS 3 in a working environment as a new user and then copied the
whole profile directory. You do have to go through the settings first,
particularly for Processing, and for Network and remove any paths that are
specific to your user. And if the user has already had the problem then you
have to completely log them out of the system. But then it should work. In
our case the directories themselves seemed to have the lock on them. The error
is about qgis.db but when we look at the profile, the whole profile directory
is missing but secretly still there. So just copying a particular file
wouldn’t work.

Hi Heather,

Thanks for your response! In my situation, I'm getting this error for 100% of
users with redirected app data rather than just some, but I am interested in
your workaround.

Could you help me understand which files/folders you're copying from a known
good/working profile to a problematic one? I can test in our environment and
let you know if that resolves the issue for us.

Thanks again,

The situation is only relevant to brand new users, once the profile is

The situation is impossible to reproduce on purpose. It is entirely dependent

I ended up with the workaround of installing a dummy profile for all

Re: [Qgis-user] Unable to launch QGIS with X Forwarding - Can Not make

2019-05-20 Thread Hillers Heather

I am having the same qgis.db error using a Windows Farm environment with
profiles stored on a network drive. It appears to be a problem with the delay
in synchronizing the directory with the server

After getting this error and closing QGIS 3, we find ourselves in the following
situation

1. We open msys.
2. We cd to the parent of the profiles directory.
3. We ls. profiles does not exist.
4. We mkdir foo. That is successful. So we have permissions.
5. We cannot mkdir profiles. That is an error from the file system, because it
thinks profiles exists already.
6. We cannot remove profiles, because the system thinks it is in use by another
program.

Restarting QGIS doesn't work. The only solution we have found is to completely
log the user out of the system, log back in, copy a dummy profile to the
profile location, and start QGIS 3.

This is happening to 1 out of 4 new users on our system, as we move them from
QGIS 2 to QGIS 3. (QGIS 2 never had this problem.)

Since we have 50 users, we are going to each user and doing their first startup
and settings personally, using the dummy profile. This isn't so bad, since it
helps make sure the user's environment is just as they want it, but I would be
happier if the profile problem wasn't there.

Hi everybody,
I have a ubuntu Bionic LTS server with QGIS 3.4 LTR installed
Since the Qgis project I've published connects to local postggis data I
would like to launch Qgis with X forwarding to modify directly the
published project...

The client is debian 9.8 when I try to launch qgis it shows me the import
esttings window, then the splash screen and after that an alert window with
message "ERROR Can Not make qgis.db private copy" the stdout also log the
following

ERROR: auth db directory path could not be created
ERROR: opening of authentication db FAILED

the auth db path is setted in apache. conf for qgis server: tried to set
the same path as environment variable but no change.

seems that after installation I don't have .qgis3 folder

Any suggestion?

There's no .qgis3 anymore - the user profiles are in
~/.local/share/QGIS/QGIS3/profiles

2016-11-04 Thread Hillers Heather
Hello,

I am administering a QGis LTR 2.14 installation for 50 users on a Citrix
Windows 7 networked environment using OSGeo4W, using OSGeo4W and Oracle as our
database. We have been productive since Qgis 2.8. We started testing at Qgis
1.8. My users press All The Buttons, so I feel like I've run into just about
every problem there is. I feel like we have a stable productive system. I'd
recommend looking at QGIS Enterprise from Sourcepole for support and ease of
installation. We didn't go that direction, but I'm still keeping an eye on
them, and they might be the right solution for you. Boundless also delivers an
enterprise solution. If you have questions about my experience with the
system, you can send me an email.

[Qgis-user] LTR Upgrade 2.8 to 2.14

2016-09-15 Thread Hillers Heather
Hi,

I'm getting ready to move my (50) users from 2.8 to 2.14 on the qgis-ltr
branch. Would you recommend starting them on a fresh Profile directory (which
would mean going to each user and re-doing their Settings for them) or is it
safe to let them keep the Profile directories they had for 2.8, which would
preserve their Settings with the new version?

Has there been any problems with 2.8 projects that are opened, edited and saved
in 2.14?

Thanks,

[Qgis-user] Another Raster Problem

2016-09-12 Thread Hillers Heather

Hi,

I have a set of tifs that cause an AppCrash on load to 2.14.6 and 2.16, either
immediately on load or shortly after. I can load and work with these files
without problem in QGIS 2.8.6

I have produced 4 small hillshade tifs, each less than 1000 Kb in size. Each
has a world file and a kml in the same directory. I have uploaded them to
https://github.com/HeatherHillers/QGISRasterLoadCrash

We have a networked Windows 7 32bit environment running OSGeo4W (qgis-ltr) as
well as a local Windows 7 32 bit environment running OSGeo4W (qgis-ltr and
qgis) and the problem shows in all 3 installations. The QGIS 2.8 that loads
the files successfully is also running on a networked Windows 32bit
environment. Storing the files on a networked vs. local drive doesn't seem to
impact the problem.

The CRS of the files is 32619. I have tried eliminating Reprojection in my
settings and in the project settings.

I have produced the data by following the instructions in the following 3
(excellent!) tutorials from LASTools, using their test data. I didn't get any
errors in generation, and the tiles look very nice in 2.8, so I don't .think.
they are corrupt.

[Qgis-user] QGIS Plugin Repositories not available?

2016-09-02 Thread Hillers Heather

The last few days we have lost the ability to load the QGIS Plugin Repositories

The same is happening for versions 2.8 and 2.16. Their Status is unavailable.
We haven't changed our system (that I am aware of) and we can load WMS Services
fine. The problem comes with both Default Proxy and Http Proxy. Is there
something going on with the system or the paths or is it just us?

[Qgis-user] Geoprocessing Tools give wierd answerd

2016-03-11 Thread Hillers Heather

Hi,

I have a Multiline layer A with about 900 Features loaded (only a few of those
are actually multi part geometries) in QGIS 2.14 and I try to do Vector ->
Geoprocessing Tools -> Difference with Layer A as the input vector layer and
Layer A as the difference layer, expecting to get as a result an empty layer.
But, the Output Shapefile has ~150 Features in it. Topology Checker says,
there are no invalid geometries, but there are about 90 pseudo nodes in the
layer. I started snooping around and found other line shapes that behave this
way. Have I fundamentally misunderstood what a difference is, or is there some
specific geometry problem that causes difference to behave oddly? The use case
is silly, but I started with comparing an exported shape to its source, got
weird results, and then tried to compare the source to itself as a sanity
check. Now I feel I might have lost sanity. Help?

[Qgis-user] Oracle connection timeout returns

2015-05-13 Thread Hillers Heather

Since 2.8.1, Jürgen Fischer repaired an oracle timeout connection error with the
qoci spatial driver: cleanup session connection when login
failedhttps://github.com/qgis/QGIS/commit/4789c2361dd5d3e336838492af757f10310d0531

This patch first appeared productively in 2.8.2.

We find that on our local Windows machines and on one of our test Windows Farm
machines, this patch works. However, on our productive Windows Farm machines,
we are still getting the error. We think this is either because the load on
the Windows Farm machines is much higher than the load on our local and test
machines, or there is something up with the client on the windows farm
machines. However, since qgis comes with its own oracle client, it's really
hard to tell what is going on. We know there should be no difference between
our Test Farm machine and our productive Farm machines. That indicates to us
that it is just the load that makes the difference.

So, a couple questions:

1. Is it possible there is a lingering oracle timeout error in qgis?
Something that doesn't show up in low load situations?

2. Is it possible to use the system oracle client with qgis instead of
the internal client?

3. How does qgis and it's internal oracle client work?

Thanks,

Heather

[Qgis-user] QGIS-rel-dev doesn't install alone

2015-04-23 Thread Hillers Heather

We really need qgis 2.8.2 on our productive system to fix an oracle bug that is
for us critical and becoming more and more critical as we get more users. We
were waiting for the point release to come, but this week we decided it was
better not to wait and just install the qgis-rel-dev as our production version
until the point release came. However, when we run OSGeo4W and try to
uninstall the qgis module and install the qgis-rel-dev module, it doesn't work.
We end up with qgis and qgis-rel-dev anyway, and 2 start menu items.

We get the dependency notice, qgis required by qgis-globe-plugin,
qgis-grass-plugin, qgis-oracle-provider. We definitely need qgis-grass-plugin
and qgis-oracle-provider. How can we get a clean install of qgis-rel-dev?

[Qgis-user] Oracle connection Timeout

We have a QGIS installation running with a Oracle 12 Database.
If we open the Qgis Oracle Connection window and set up a connection without

add any table to qgis, our DBA gets the error below:

We are experiencing the same problem whether we are connecting from our QGIS

experience the same problem with 2 different databases, and with 2 different
oracle servers. We have tried increasing the connection timeout on the oracle
side to 200 seconds, with no effect. From qgis, we see no hang or connection
problems. We are quickly asked for our credentials and the layer loads
successfully. The error usually comes after the load is complete. These
errors also come with the opening of projects with Oracle tables in them. The
end result is that we have to do a daily reboot of our TNS Listener. Our DBA
finds this unacceptable, particularly since the number of users is expected to
rise sharply. I am not seeing any reports of other users with this problem.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

seen the following:

1. Qgis crashes or ends badly for some reason.

2. Qgis is restarted by the user.

3. The user sees the settings from another user. (network settings,
database connections, last used projects, everything)

We cannot reproduce this error. We can only confirm that on 2 separate
occasions in the last 2 months, 2 separate users have seen the error in the
presence of reliable witnesses, and that on one occasion it happened in a
workshop in which the 2 affected users, of which I was one, were sitting next
to each other and could view each other's screens.

Our user profiles are on a networked drive K:\qgis, so that we have the same
QGIS profile everywhere in the farm. One upshot of this is that from the
Windows machine it is not possible to see the profile of another user. How one
user's QGIS instance is reading another user's profile is a mystery. Our
theory is, that when QGIS crashes, perhaps it tries to restore its state from
some ... place, that is central, and not separate to the user, or they are in
memory somewhere. And maybe in that way it somehow grabs the in memory or in
cache settings from the most recent active user in order to restore the state?

Does anyone have an idea what this problem might be, what kind of diagnostic I
could run, where I could look for clues? This is clearly going to be really
bad if it happens often with all our users on the system. I need a fix badly.

Thanks,

Hasel Hillers

[Qgis-user] Issue installing compiled QGIS release_2-2

2014-06-13 Thread Hillers Heather

Hello,

I am having troubles with the results of make install for QGIS branch
release_2-2.

I have on Ubuntu Precise a production Qgis 2.2 from Ubuntugis-unstable
packages. I want to test Qgis 2.2 with Oracle support in a second installation
on the same machine.

Following the instructions in INSTALL, I compiled 2.2 and ran make install to
prefix /usr/local. This Qgis ran, but did not have PYQGIS support.

I got the error below at program load.

When I run from build/output/bin/qgis, the program works without error. I
tried installing to /usr/local/qgisdev, and to $HOME/qgisdev, with the same
error result.

The install is also failing to load the grass plugin, which also has no
problems in the build dir.

I don't see anything where my production distribution is clobbering. Any
suggestions would be extremely appreciated (including a hey, but you can get
an Ubuntu Precise Qgis 2.2 with Oracle support package from here and you don't
really have to compile it suggestion)

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks,

Heather

[Qgis-user] Centos Raster Anomalies

2013-07-09 Thread Hillers Heather

Hello,

I have built qgis 1.8 final release from source on Centos6. When I run make
check, I get failures in qgis_rasterlayertest and qgis_rendererstest. These
failures are the result of raster anomalies that do not match the expected
raster anomalies stored in testdata. Attached are the raster anomalies, which
in many cases are similar too (but a bit worse than) the expected windows
anomalies. The anomalies are as follows:

Continuous_result_diff.png
Graduated_result_diff.png
Landsat_875_result_diff.png
Landsat_basic_result_diff.png
Raster_pseudo_result_diff.png
Raster_result_diff.png
Single_result_diff.png
Uniquevalue_result_diff.png

I added these raster anomalies to tests/testdata/control_images/[test case],
and that did eliminate the unittest failures as a result of anomalies not
matching any expected anomalies. However, my unittests still fail after the
anomaly match as a result of bandStatistics

   Loc:
[/pse/edv/hil/src/qgis/18release/qgis-1.8.0/tests/src/core/testqgsrasterlayer.cpp(177)]

When I ran qgis_rasterlayertest through gdb, this mean value was found to be 4.

Qgis is linking yum installed libpng 1.2.49.

1. Are the anomalies a feature of the system, and just need to be added
to testdata, or are they manifestations of a bug?

2. What can I do about the bandStatistics error? Is this going to cause
bad behavior in qgis, or is only going to effect image quality?

3. Might this be coming from a library dependency?

Thanks,

MonsterMushroom
