Hi Hartmut So the work around for now is to do Options->Projection and use a global default projection. I will try to address this issue in a follow up release - but it will be a few days before I can get to it as I need to attend to all the other things I put on hold while working on the win build. Replicating the issue is exceedingly easy: open Qgis, add any vector layer (file, PostGIS), that's it--access violation in Qgis.exe, but obviously not on all Windows versions. I'm on WinXP Pro x64, which is the Windows Server 2003 codebase. I haven't been able to test on 32-bit XP yet.
