Davide, dd is a utility program that allows you to dump raw file systems or partitions to image files and back. It is a standard program that comes with all Unix and Linux systems. It is available as near function-equivalent implementations on Windows systems as well: http://www.chrysocome.net/dd Is one example I have used successfully in the past.
