Thanks.

Didn't we have a long discussion here about top and bottom posting, and
decide bottom posting was the preferred way?
I edited this reply to bottom posting. Top posting makes it harder to
read. I don't know any usenet group that uses anything but bottom
posting, and this group looks very much like usenet in my mailer.

He he, the Softnet ISP closed down many years ago, please update your
records Tony ;-))

The preferred email address is as above (the one I use for this list).
I'll send you the full list of email addresses for me in a private
email

Ironically, of all my email addresses over the years, the above
Softnet one is the only one which no longer works!

I did not have a vote in this decision, in my opinion, the text should
be at the top and quoting at the bottom.

We have to choose one only and my vote (along with the *whole* of
usenet) is for bottom posting (with quoted text at the top).

In fact one gets flamed on usenet for bottom quoting.

This also adds the benefit of making judicious editing feasible.

However the main reason for needed top quoting is that it is very very
hard to pick up a thread if you did not start at the beginning.

We must choose one, and top quoting, in fact, seems more common here.

I would prefer bottom quoting - that is the default in Thunderbird!

If I may offer an opinion too...

If we choose the standard bottom posting then we can read the salient
points of the conversation from the top downwards - like reading a
newspaper or book etc.

Mind you, that does rather depend on people trimming out all the cruft
and leaving only the salient points!

I'm Thunderbird too.

I have a customer who purchased a second hand QL off ebay and a Trump
Card from me.

The QL was in a poor state and would not start - but he fetched all the
chips out and reseated them, so it starts fine.

However, as soon as he plugged the Trump Card into the machine - it gets
through the chequer-board memory test - then comes up with a grey screen.

The PSU seemed under powered, so he has replaced the PSU and the Trump
Card + QL then started fine a couple of times.
However, having left the computer and Trump Card for a few days - he is
back to the same problem on start-up

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this may be - I wonder if it
could be the 68008 chip??

back in the days of yore, we used to 'cure' QL's with marginal power problems by
replacing the 2 ROM's with a CMOS EPROM, really dropped the milliamp draw of the
QL's power supply bits. Somewhere in the back of my mind it seems that it
reduced the total draw by up to 30%

OK, since I also use Thunderbird, I have no wish to have flames coming
from Tony. Then it at the bottom we quote.

However on saying that the default quoting can be changed in the

What about a binary vote - eh? :)

In passing, I notice that -
1) Norman did not commit himself to 'top down' *programing*.
2) This posting is neither 0 nor 1! It's 0 with a 'header' and
