[Ql-Users] Quantum Webring
Having been a member of the Quantum Webring since it's early days, I am finding myself a bit frustrated with a problem which has crept up in recent times. Visitors to www.dilwyn.me.uk are sometimes (seemingly randomly) redirected to the webring hub, which is hugely annoying for visitors who do not want to use the webring. I searched their forum and asked for help, but got what amounted to a standard reply saying that rthey are unaware of any issues, despite at least 2 others stating that this happens with their (non-QL) rings too. The simple answer is to ditch the webring code (bottom of the page), but I'd rather try to resolve it first. Anyone else have experience fo this and how to fix it? Ah yes - I had this issue accessing your site as well only last week. Thought it was me! No idea though what causes it. I did though use a Google search result. Maybe Google sometimes lists the webring link rather than your site. Tony It also happens if you type the page address manually into the address bar of your browser, use a bookmark, etc. Seems independent of browser type. Seems to happen with about 50% of accesses to the site, based on my own little tests. Maybe the Webring people have quietly introduced a change which tries to force people to use the webring at random? It never happens (in my tests anyway) if you select my website from the webring hub page. Ideally, when I get time, I'll make sure I'm using the latest webring code, but it ain't an easy task to set it up, and this has started happening much more recently than the last time I updated the code. Re: [Ql-Users] Quantum Webring
To be my usual provocative self, given the small number of active QL websites, does the Webring continue to have a purpose? My experience is that the first time I access Dilwyn's site I am redirected. When I immediately access it a second time there is no problem, Best Wishes, Geoff www.gwicks.net/justwords.htm ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

My experience is that the first time I access Dilwyn's site I am redirected. When I immediately access it a second time there is no problem, Best Wishes, Geoff I'm tempted to agree with you. When I get time, I'll try the latest code from Webring, if the problem persists I'll remove myself from the ring. Not all of the sites in the ring are still active - Phoebus's site, for example. So maybe it's time Quantum Webring was wound down. I am not completely sure who started it - might have been someone like Giorgio Garabello in Italy, perhaps?
