However, the delightful WM_MOVEMODE 3, which works well with most
windows digs down too far and too erratically to show what's beneath the
moving window if this is not the main one. For example, pressing File in
QD causes a small window to appear in the main one. If this is moved you
either see what's beneath the main window (two layers down) or an array
of small lines seemingly unconnected with anything. OK, the small window
moves, but it is not as elegant as it should be.

Has anyone tried this?

This seems to be true for all secondary-windows on top of a primary, in PE
speak.

I tested it with SuQcess.
Either with Menu_rext menus or my own, created in Basic with EasyPtr4 or
QPTR, the result is the same.
Parts of the primary or the background image shine through but the pixel
are not vertically aligned properly, giving a distorted background.
At one time I did get a partly undistorted background, from another job's
primary, where the SuQcess primary was covering it.

In the final release you will be able to drag the window to the
desired monitor and activate full-screen mode there. However, I
noticed that on both my XP test PCs the smoothing algorithm is
disabled on the second monitor by the graphics driver for some reason.
So it looks a bit blocky, but nothing I can do about it.

My Win7 PC currently doesn't have a second screen, so couldn't check
that there yet. Also, my company will probably skip Windows 8

Yeah, this was a side-effect of the fact that I'm actually working on
QPC2 v4, which was supposed to be a surprise but after Jochen's mail
probably isn't anymore :-(

Anyway, I had to disable some new v4 code to create 3.40 beta 3, as I
wanted the new screen driver to be beta tested before I release v4
with it. This resulted in the setting not working anymore.

By the way, how's the keyboard working, still problems?

Pressing CTRL+SHIFT+F12+fn does the trick.

I'll try the PC left on overnights with just one program running each time,
then try combinations to see if it's one program or a combination. I haven't

I like it much better than the old way of a FSM which did change the
computers graphics card configuration (resolution/colour depth) and made
Windows nervous in some occasions. The new FSM leaves graphics card control
to Windows and hence is no more disturbing the systems behaviour. In this
version CTRL+SHIFT+F12 (toggle FSM)and CTRL+SHIFT+ScrollLock (EXIT QPC2)

It made sense in the past for CRT monitors where you still got a crisp
picture when you reduced the resolution (also graphics cards were not
always up to the task of scaling the image in real-time), but in the
days of LCDs the new solution is really better suited. Windows 8
probably doesn't even support the old mode anymore, but lacking a
