Re: [ql-users] Which game would you like to be writen ?
PSII: Are there any QL User in Germany left, of even an Club of QL Partys ? A few like me are still around and somewhat active. There has even been a meeting once a year, but this year it looks like it won't happen again. Therefore the nearest location for me was Eindhoven. I spoke to Friedemann, who has organised the QL meetings in Berchtesgaden in the past 4 years or so about 4 or 5 weeks ago. it looks like is fact now :-( There was no feedback whatsoever to Friedemann or us at QL Today, so why bother? Sad, as I would also be there this year (we always planned our stay in that area around this date after Friedemann had started the shows, and did so in case it would happen again this year), but without any interest at all... There were hardly any visitors at the show last year, so I believe the lack of response reflects reality in this area. Re: [ql-users] was... Just an idea for a new Product.....
H! I now wonder what I bought from Jochen when he sent me QPTR. I thought that was the Pointer Environment by itself. What I got was the QPTR Manual (now much used), a set of Qmac macros for programming assembler pointer programs using Qmac, QPTR extensions for programming Pointer Environment in SuperBASIC and some demo SuperBASIC programs. Well, QPTR *WAS* the manual, the demo and macros on the disk plus the extensions to program the Pointer Environment from BASIC. :-) PTR_GEN, WMAN and HOT_REXT, the so-called Extended Environment, always came with every JMS program which required it (QD, Fifi, QSpread ...) (visually free to the customer, although I paid Tony Tebby royalties for the EE for every new sale, until recently, when he decided he did not want it anymore) What would one do with a separately bought PTR_GEN and WMAN and no program which uses it, I wonder Not much - except from having non-destructable windows, probably nothing. Re: [ql-users] Just an idea for a new Product.....
Hi Jeremy, Tis true! I use thunderbird. It allows you to inspect thesource; and it is plain text. However under normal display it converts text strings that start with http: into a URL. Similarly, it converts all the and at the start of the line into pretty formatted coloured sidebars. There really is no reason why anyone should need to send email in html. However, the main point is, that unless the body of the text in an email tells me why I'm supposed to click on a link, then I'm unlikely to. I receive too many to follow random links without knowing why. Something as simple as Follow this link for Jochen Mertz' special offers would probably have done the trick. It has a header trader's ads ... not go to trader's website (Maybe you should put this in capitals only, double-underline it, Tony) isn't this explaining enough what the links are? And Roy's link even says showflyer. Honestly, if you need the explanation follow this link on a highlit hyperlink, you may as well ask for information to be added how to click on a hyperlink or general explanation what a link is... So what I am saying here is: whatever we do, we can't please everybody. It is always too much for some, too few information for others. But somehow I had the feeling that it was just about right for the majority. Obviously not, as you do not seem to be the only one who missed it. Re: [ql-users] Canon Printers
Put another way my life is not dominated by the QL. When I have to buy a new printer there will be a lot of things I shall take into account in making my choice and the QL is just one of them. I am not going to waste time or money looking for a QL compatible printer when the QL community has pussyfooted for years on solving the problem. More provocatively, in April 2004 three leading lights of the QL community sat on a Florida beach and decided that solving the printer problem was one of the main tasks for the 12 months ahead. We are now almost halfway through that 12 months. Could they give a progress report please? Well, we did not decide it was one of the main tasks, we all KNOW it is extremely important. However, there does not seem to be an easy solution. We discussed it several times later, but it still looks like a very difficult task. In the end, we need an easy-to-use, transparent solution, which needs to work on more platforms than QPC. This makes it even more difficult. [ql-users] Email problems
Hi everybody on the list, I read about missing emails. Well, very strange things are going on. I ran several tests with Wolfgang Lenerz, for example, and only 3 of 4 mails from Bruce arrived at j-m-s.com Mails from some sources do not arrive at j-m-s.com at all, although they are whitelisted (they don't get through if no spam filter is active at all!). SOMETHING in the world wide web is filtering mails (or throwing them away) without notifying the sender. This is reproduceable in some cases, in other cases it is random. My provider has no clue either, but in the reproduceable cases the sending server refuses to connect to the receiving server. Fact is: it is unreliable and it is related to j-m-s.com (my main account). I would guess that due to the massive number of faked virus mails (I get the bounces, so I have an idea what is going on), j-m-s.com may be on some internal black lists (I checked all public lists, not listed in any!).
