It takes about 2 seconds on an unexpanded Minerva QL, so I wouldn't
say this was generally the case.

It took 20 seconds or so on a Q68, which was not the Q68's fault at
all but a mere coincidence.

EasyMenu has always been slow to startup on all QL platforms.

I thank you for the bug fix.

This is an outside chance only,. to be thught of a a last resort.

Have you resized any component such as an inf window containing a text
object without first resizing the text bject? The error meesage you see is
not what i would expect in this case, but i have had this happen that i
resized something and it either fails to load, or laded but only displaying
items up the point of error.

With specialist knowledge it might be possible to patch such things, but
this is definitely not a job for the inexperienced. As Marcel suggested
defining a new menu from scratch might actually be quicker than hunting for
vague errors like this.

(apologies for typos, i have a problem with this keyboard)

Subject: [Ql-Users] EASYMENU - Not so easy!

Some weeks ago, I asked if anyone could assist me with a problem I am
having, - The menu I developed about a year ago in EasyMenu, will not go
back into the programme giving an error report - "Menu file is too big
to go into the available Work Space! Press any Key.

The only suggestion I had was to try using MenuConfig on the EASYMENU
programme and make the Work Space as large as it will go. I have done
this but the only options available in MenuConfig for Work Space are:-
"none" "small" and "big". Having tried all three options, I am still
unable to get the menu file back into the prog so that I can edit it.

My only solution seems to be to develop the Menu again - What a bind!!

Has anyone got any serious answers and/or suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation.:-[

In your original email you said to be working with EasyPTR4 but the
options "big, small, none" are for EasyMenu v3 and not v4.

So trying to fit a v4 menu into a v3 EasyMenu may not be a good thing.
In v4 you can specify width and height up to 4096 (as Francois suggested)
although I am not sure what happens if you config more than the screen
allows, probably v4 addapts.

John,

Here is a couple of suggestions that I have:

1. Try EasyMenu in a different environment. If running on a BBQL, try
it with QPCII or SMSQmulator. You might be different behavior.

2. Post the menu file somewhere and see if someone else can reproduce
the problem.

Send me the file. But no promises, properly debugging this probably
takes more time than recreating the menu from scratch, but I'll have a
quick look nonetheless.

DetectTitle% only seems to appear at the start of the file, though I
guess I could add something like

IF DetectTitle%=0 THEN RETurn 0

or

IF DetectTitle%=0 THEN BarDetected% = 0

in the relevant places. Doesn't worry me much, they are easy enough to
change by hand in Easymenu.

Any possibility of a function in Easymenu to automatically set all
elements' colours to the selected palette entry number e.g. one click
would set all outline, info window, info object and application
windows to the colour palette values for those elements ? That would
allow an old menu to be be updated quickly and easily and make it much
easier to convert menus. [Ouch...don't hit me...I was only asking
:-) ]

Yes, I did something like that for converting existing binaries to
the

new format. It's probably not good enough for a general release, but
will send it per mail.

Alternatively, if anyone has info on the Easymenu menus format I
might

have a bash at writing one myself if it is a practical proposition.

Actually there is no Easymenu format. The files consist of a
normal

Window Definition as described in the QPTR manual, plus a very small
header.

Marcel
Many thanks. I'll tweak the routine to do the simpler job I want of
it.

Some blank info windows get converted as titles. Doesn't suit my
easymenu menus, so I'll probably change it a little for my own use.
Clear enough code even though all the POKE_W commands make it look
frightening at first. With a bit of help fromt he QPTR guide the
format is easy enough to follow.

Thank you for your help.

2005-06-27 Thread Dilwyn Jones

One for the Easymenu users on this list.

Has anyone by any chance written a routine which will patch a menu's
original colours with system palette numbers?

Alternatively, if anyone has info on the Easymenu menus format I might
have a bash at writing one myself if it is a practical proposition.
Potential problems might be if colour numbers are stored as bytes in
the old Easyptr and words in the new system. If the menus carry
information as to object type, it is probably possible to partly
automate conversion.

I need to finish converting the Launchpad menus to Wman2 system
palette and just wondered if soemone might have come up with a method
of conversion.

Equally, if someone knows it is a non-starter of an idea, let me know
to help prevent me wasting any time on it!

I don't quite understand what you mean. Just leave the old colours but
give them the numbers of

the system palette?
If this is what you mean, I don't see the point. Personally, if I was busy
with old menus, I'd tend

to give them a new style with a new set of colours anyway.
