[qmailtoaster] Whitelist any domain
Hi Everyone, I got a bounced message from my toaster server. And the reason for bounce is mentioned below: Could not deliver message to the following recipient(s): Failed Recipient: Local Emailid Reason: Remote host said: 421 Refused. Your reverse DNS entry does not resolve. The email-id which got this bounced message is for 1 of my client and asked them to ask there ISP to resolve there RDNS issue. But mean while his ISP resolve the RDNS issue, I want to whitelist his domain on my toaster since I'm expecting some important documents. So how can I whitelist this domain? Do I need to whitelist this domain in local.cf file of spamassassin or in rcpthosts file? Thanks and regards, Amit

I still have not been able to resolve the problem. It seems like a problem external to the server. I found this out by installing QMT5 on another machine and am getting the same problem on it. Outbound mail is not leaving the server. I am receiving mail normally. Thanks for all the excellent help available on the list. Khan Md Ashraf You did not offend, but without the real domain name or IP address (and possibly full, unedited logs) we can be of little help. I mentioned in one of my previous emails that the issue was possibly with the other server. Can you show us some logs where the error is showing (include 15 lines before the error, and 15 after so we can see the full transaction). Also set up an account (such as your Gmail account you're using) and try sending to that domain. Does it go through? I understand wanting to protect your mail server, but addresses are scrubbed from these emails when they are posted to the Internet, so the only ones who get these messages are admins like yourself. I run plenty of these systems for other people - I have no desire to do anything or know anything about your server. Mr. Vickers, Thank you. I am a much relieved man. I was only worried that some third parties would misuse the same. I happy that you have cleared that up for me. I receive mail to the server. No mail leaves the server. To even other QMT mail servers I have installed and manage. From my understanding of it, outbound mail is not leaving my server. I have double and triple checked if the IP is listed on any spam list and it hasn't showed on any. This IP also is not a NAT for any local LAN' s, It sits on the DMZ of the firewall and does only mail. Try doing some telnet tests, as outlined here: http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/How_to_use_telnet_for_diagnostics It looks like your firewall may have a spam proxy or smtp proxy and is intercepting the transmissions. If you're not sure, give us the results of the telnet test you did.

That looks like you have spamdyke installed. You can whitelist the IP of the server in your whitelist_ip-file that is configured in your spamdyke.conf Just put the IP on a line in that file. If you have for example: ip-whitelist-file=/var/qmail/control/whitelist_ip in your spamdyke.conf you add the IP of the sending server to the file: /var/qmail/control/whitelist_ip that's it Andreas Am Thursday 24 September 2009 13:07:08 schrieb amit IKF: Hi Everyone, I got a bounced message from my toaster server. [qmailtoaster] Problems emailing large number of recipients
Greetings list, I have a problem with one of my users who is trying to send out a large amount of emails (900+) at one time. We are a school, and we try to send out regular updates to our alumni regarding upcoming events and interests. These emails are generated via a database program, then sent through this particular users Outlook client. This is not spam, but to our email server, it is being treated like it. Which I appreciate. All the users in the database have asked to have emails sent to them. Below are the 2 separate bounce back messages, the tcp.smtp settings, and the spamdyke.conf setting for max recipients. It appears that the messages are still being stopped after the recipient limit hits 50. The chkuser_recptlimit=1000. That's the way Outlook does IMAP all right. Pretty screwy. In order to get the messages to disappear from the screen, go to View--Arrange By--Current View and click Hide messages marked for deletion. I'm not sure off hand when the message actually get deleted. I think there's an option for configuring that, and it's different between O'03 and O'07. FWIW, Outlook will also not save messages in the IMAP Sent folder. You need to create an Email Rule manually to do that. I also create a rule for filing spam. [qmailtoaster] Advantage/Disadvantage ...??
I'm loading up a fresh QmailToaster (to be used as a cache/backup) and usually I've always been under the assumption that it is best to do away with the LVM groups and format the partitions direct to the drive. Is there an advantage to using LVM vs not using LVM for QmailToaster? I know this is a matter of opinion but I'd like to know what others are doing... Thank you, Patrick M. Ring P. Hi John, Consider using worldmerge, shareware that works very good and pulls data out of a database. It does not send via outlook but has it's own mailclient. It's not free, but 40$ isn't exaggerated and it does a very good job. This tool sends mails one per one. Only if you use iptables recent, you will have to exclude the senders ip-address from this rule. If I send an e mail to myself whether from a local account ie. c...@yother.com to c...@yother.com or from cjyot...@pacbell.net to c...@yother.com and vice versa it takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes for the e mail to arrive. The are on different IP's and one is mail only. This particular toaster is web, mail and slave DNS. I have extensively tested the DNS and it's responding as expected. I was going to suggest that next, but I'd test on the one server. Since you're seeing the delay there, why introduce more complexity? I'd try another test, and grab the send and smtp logs at the same time. The spamd and clam logs wouldn't hurt either. Oh, and we don't see any delay in this email header. Are you using pop3 or imap? I would try clicking get/check mail on the client every 5 seconds or so and see how long it takes to show up. Please try this. Also run a telnet test (http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/How_to_use_telnet_for_diagnostics) and see if that works okay. Trying to isolate whether it's on the sending side or the receiving side. Even if you take into account that my e mail client only checks mail every ten minutes that's still 15 minute delay. Since you have two mail servers, send a message from the one that has the LEAST amount of traffic, and send a message to the other one. While you do this, grab both the send log from the sending server and the SMTP log from the receiving server and post those so we can see what's going on in the logs. That's the bottom line. Try to isolate where the delay occurs. I'm guessing it'll be in the back end (delivery) area. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. If you use qmlog, you'd see the times clearly. ;) # qmlog -f smtp You really want to use qmlog. Trust me on this. It's a powerful tool. This is what I get when sending. That's fast. What about the send log? I have tried checking the server send/receive mail constantly, but it takes anywhere from 5-25 minutes to respond. You mean to show up at the client, I presume. I am using IMAP. courier-toaster I presume. How do I test the delivery side? # cd /home/vpopmail/domains/yother.com/cj/Maildir/new # ls -ltr | tail will show you a list of the 10 most recently received unread files. Do the command to see what's already there, then try another test email, and repeat the ls command to see how long it takes to make it to here. -- -Eric 'shubes' - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. By performing the tests using both machines we can at least see what a real world transaction will look like. If he's around tomorrow and things aren't too hectic for me, I may try getting him in the IRC and watch my logs as he tries to send me messages and see what shows up on my end. Unless someone else is able to do it before me. Oh, and we don't see any delay in this email header. Are you using pop3 or imap? The delivery side seems to look like it's working okay. Maybe courier is causing the delay. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Area510.net : e mail delay
OK, a little more info. Both of my servers are experiencing the same delay. I sent an e mail from server 1 to server 2 I immediately saw it in the tail -f /var/log/qmail/smtp/current logs, but not in server 2 current logs. I did a qmailctl restart on server 1 and it then appeared in server 2's log, but not int he recipients mailbox. I then did a qmailctl restart on server 2 and it appeared in the recipients mailbox. I am leaning toward something in the latest updates I did, which was about a week ago, but don't know where to start. Thanks for your time as always. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. You said you send a message from server1 to server2 and it shows in server1's smtp logs, but not in server2's current log. Which current log? (smtp, spam, etc.) The more detail at this point the better. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Area510.net : e mail delay
The activity I see when I tail -f /var/log/qmail/smtp/current is what I mean. Is there someplace I can see a flow chart of a default setup? and how to follow the mail through the system? This would be extremely helpful. I can get you all of the detail you need, but I need to know where to look. Jake Vickers wrote: Maxwell Smart wrote: OK, a little more info.
