I am having exactly the same problem on both a Esxi 3.5 vmware and a Vmware
server 2 setup on a ubuntu server 8.LTS
Have you gotten around this problem allready ?

No you're not the only one. I think that's just the way things are. See
/var/qmail/supervise/pop3/run and pop3-ssl/run files. They use different
programs for logging on.
FWIW, it's insecure to use plain pop3 on a public network, as passwords
are sent in the clear. Not a good idea. Personally,

The server version runs kernel 2.6.18.164.15.1.e15 on X86_64. It's the
qmtiso5 upgraded to 5.4
the exsi 3.5 runs 2.6.9-89.0.23.ELsmp on i686

About the error itself I am not much of help there. I switched six months
ago from exchange on windows to Qmailtoaster. Before the I had never touched
a linux box. I was hoping to get some answers here :)
