[qmailtoaster] Imformal poll: Upon which distro are you running qmailtoaster?

2006-10-18 Thread Warren (mailing lists)

Which distro are you using?

I am asking because I thought perhaps if enough of a majority are using
centos/redhat/fedora then perhaps it would be worth talking about
cleaning up the dependencies in the RPMs and setting up a repository so
that all that needs to be done to get the current version is everything
is yum upgrade.

So, which distro?

Upon further thought this may not be possible because of the source

Mandriva,

I dont know why, but the urpmi system with mandriva just gives me what I
want. I've been running unix/linux for over 15 years. Not linux
ofcourse, since it barely was born at that time. But i've grown to love
the Mandriva cooker (not the official releases, they take way to much
time to update). But if I could choose, i'd got with Siemens Reliant
Unix any day, but that would require their Reliant Processors, which
isn't something you will find these days..

Sooo, mandriva cooker is my flavour..

I'm against all these hardcore debian, fedora, etc. etc. will never run
anything else because it's microbust, etc. etc. I use windows as a
client application (nothing else runs my age of empires 2 game).

Upon further thought this may not be possible because of the source

 W

I don't think that binary distribution is allowed by the license (DJB).

I'd like to make the upgrade process as painless as possible too, which is
why I've written the qtp-newmodel script(s). Jake and I have worked on
putting together the qt-plus package, which will include other goodies too,
one of which is a script that EE wrote to notify you when a toaster upgrade
is available.

That's about as simple as I can figure to make the upgrade process. I'm sure
that qtp-newmodel (et al) will undergo further enhancements as people use it
and get ideas. All suggestions are welcome.

The plan is for qt-plus to be a noarch.rpm package, and will be yum-able (fwiw).

2006-10-18 Thread Erik Espinoza

It may be possible to do yum for all but the djb licensed bits. Which
is okay, since the djb licensed bits do not change very often
(qmail-toaster, ucspi-tcp, daemontools, etc), while the stuff that
does change often is permissible in binary (clamav, spamassassin,
courier, maildrop, etc).

2006-10-18 Thread geeknoob

Will be CentOS 4.x...
Except I only use Yum one time in the entire life of the distro to
download / install apt...

(I'd started with apt on another distro, which never gave me a
problem. However, I've had issues with Yum and dependencies before, so
I just don't trust it anymore.)
