The corset or binder has several purposes from what I've read.
It seems to not be for everybody though. It seems to be more important for the
higher quads and newer injuries.
The c4-4 quad I work for has used one the better part of 3 decades and doesn't
like to go without it when in his chair.
I know we've discussed about syrinx before but I have some questions for you.
I'll tell you whats going on. My oldest grandchild, Samantha was diagnosed 3
yrs. ago with a syrinx in her spinal canal at the C6 level, she was 12yrs old.
That first yr she had no problems then last yr she started
I took Dave to the VA hospital today (in Cleveland). In the parking garage they
have a row of van parking for spinal cord injuries. All others will be towed.
Had a sign towing a car. Awesome. Wished Wal-mart would do 1 or 2.

Hi Linda,
New Mobility has two good articles about syrinx, I wrote one of them:
Para/Medic: Syrinx and Pain.
I will include the links below. The people that I know that have syrinx had a
spinal cord injury first,
and the syrinx is caused by scar tissue around the spinal cord injury. Yes, a
I'm wearing one right now for my urostomy, which is essentially the same
thing. I'll get the information for you. I don't like it as well as my
other one. US orthotics based here in Tampa can do one for you, but you
need to go through your local people to get them to order it.

The one that I'm using is only 9 inches tall also. Because I have a long
torso I use a 10 inch regular binder above the binder that I use for my
lower abdominal region.
You need to adhere the colostomy/urostomy to the skin and then the binder
will help prevent any problems. If you get the right

Anyone with a colostomy also wear a abdominal binder?
I can't find a binder that fits over one. Right now I just cut a hole in
the binder, but it just frays apart real fast.
How in the world do you get a girdle on? That's gotta take a lot of turning
tugging. What do you women think of Spanx? Just as hard?

I am definitely happy that I’m a female if I have to be a quad! That is why I

Even a binder does nothing for it.

I believe their purpose is to support all of the organs inside the
abdominal cavity from falling, after they have lost support from
abdominal muscles due to atrophy.
