I recently acquired a Preforma LC 575, though it seems the hard drive
has died because whenever I start it I just get a flashing question
mark.
If anyone knows where I could I could get a replacement hard drive (I

Unfortunately whenever I try to boot from the 'Install Me First Cd' or
the floppies that came with the mac, the message 'Welcome to
Macintosh' comes up on the screen and then it freezes. I'm not sure if

It certainly could be the hard drive, but it is not necessarily. The
question mark means the system simply cannot find a start up system. Do you
have an internal or external CD drive? Start the system with a OS CD, and

came with the LC575 was not fast enough to boot the computer. Also, you

Being a 68k, the LC575 will only go as high as 8.1.
The OP should probably open the back panel and look to see if there
is a HDD

Given the symptoms, I would suggest disconnecting that internal hard
drive and trying again to boot from floppy or CD. When it freezes at

I have had some that would boot via built in CD too, but I have also worked
on ones that would not. Some of them shipped with single speed CD-ROM
drives.
