Thanks to those with suggestions on my serial port problem! I tried a little
program called SerialSetter and it worked great.
One other question: maybe I'm thick, but one thing I've always hated about
the Mac interface is not being able to view my desktop without first
clearing away all open
Click once on the desktop (so you're in the Finder),
then go to the app list, upper right-hand corner and
select Hide Others. Voila!

Just hit Apple-Option-W. It will close all open windows.
