Judging from the retail price of an aluminium alloy rad, I suspect a 2nd-hand
one would cost as much or more than a new standard one.

I already suspect I know the answer sadly.
Is the nut captive on the suspension arm ? Our drivers side is spinning and I
see hairy bodge so I'm guessing someone has been here before.
Wow this is all getting very kit car haha.
Cut out the bad repair to gain access to nut, captivate it and repair
Does anyone have a used alloy radiator?
You would cringe at how much money I've spent on this saloon now so we're
struggling to afford a radiator.
I feel very let down by the seller as it's taken all our spare cash and more.

I’d bite the bullet and go for a new alloy rad. Will save you a whole heap of
trouble in the future.

As I mentioned in a earlier reply we use a alloy XR2 Airtec radiator which
while expensive are built well. I did get a “new” standard rad to fit but it
was returned as the construction was so poor.
