Top job! It must sound great. I can't wait to see it at Stoneleigh. The fuel and oil and coolant had remained happily on the inside for a week - there was a small annoyance when I discovered gear box oil dripping, but that turned out to be a drive shaft not fully home - and so while there is a lot more work to do, it's coming home to me next week and it should be mobile for Stoneleigh. Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Message for Andrew (S3 151) - Pinto to Zetec
If the cam belt isnt moving its probably because the teeth are ripped off at the crankshaft or the tensioner is u/s. If I remember right, the pinto doesn't bend valves (could be mistaken), so a new belt and tensioner should get you back up and running. Even if there is valve contact, the head is an easy one to strip off, replace 4 inlet valves and refit. Ian Hello Ian, Thanks for the info, the timing is perfect, about 2 hours after the meet my current 1.6 Pinto decided enough was enough !! I honestly was not pushing it that much either.. The engine is almost certainly dead (cam belt not moving but intact, no leaks, holes elsewhere etc) but I have yet to find the broken bits ! (Car on the stands, nose cone off this weekend !) Although annoying, it wasn't raining, I was 200 yards from a friends house with coffee, and recovery only took 55 minutes so could be worse My dilemma now is do I go for a quick fix replacement old pinto just to get back on the road or move the plans for the zetec forward along with the bill and time to complete ! I have spend the late nights looking at whether I can realistically do the zetec in smaller chunks (both time and £) i.e. basic ford ecu, basic exhaust manifold, single inlet, but QM61 suggests it is still a big change. I have dropped an email to Mark at Q, but not heard anything yet (1 week +) so will call him soon. Nigel - Thanks also- I have read that the silver tops had a few problems ( overheating i think ?) - I didn't realise the SE exhaust was the same side, so excluded it from my list. I definitely need more research. One thing is certain- I need an engine crane !!! off to ebay ...
