[qubes-users] Let's discuss about Windows Managers WM

2019-09-28 Thread Sake
Hello wizards

I found very few resources on WMs except the official doc.

What is your WM and why?
Do you have something to say about configuration? Especially when it
comes for QubesOS?
Can you link some good advises?

Did you notice that the official doc for awesome is more rude about
windows focusing than basic XFCE setup?

Hello again,

https://qubes-os.info/ seems to be off for months now.
bad new!
What's happen?

Is there some people interested to discuss for bringing a free way to be
informed and structuring the help about Qubes?

Did you heard about framosoft initiatives? of CHATONS? (french acronym
for Collectif des Hébergeurs Alternatifs,Transparents, Ouverts, Neutres
et Solidaires;
or
Collective of Alternate, Transparent, Open, Neutral and Solidary Hosts).

[qubes-users] sudo root or sudo bash without password for building Qubes

2019-09-28 Thread acharya . sagar . sagar5
I tried to make things work using Qubes built iso but the updates (dom0)
instead of stabilizing the system, broke it. I couldn't boot up!
I'm trying to build Qubes in which I face problem in making "sudo bash" run
without password.

While there are some solutions which ask to make edit in /etc/sudoers and
change some lines with

/path/to/script/

I have to run the command "make qubes-os-iso". I'm unaware how the linking
happens. As far as I know make is the command.

How do I make sudo bash run without password OR
What's the path to qubes-os-iso?

[qubes-users] Correct user & permissions on /rw/config VPN Qube related files

2019-09-28 Thread 'ScoreB' via qubes-users
Dear all,

Recently I set up a VPN Qube using a ProxyVM as a VPN gateway using iptables
and CLI scripts as described step-by-step
[here](https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/vpn/#set-up-a-proxyvm-as-a-vpn-gateway-using-iptables-and-cli-scripts)
(the official documentation). It worked like a charm (even though the
guidelines seem to be aimed at Qubes R3 as still referring to setting up a
proxy-vm with old screenshots). But it worked and once the VM started I got a
nice pop-up message if it was up, and another one if it went down.

I noticed however that the pass.txt was readable for everyone. So I changed it
via 'sudo chmod 600 /rw/config/vpn/pass.txt'. When I relaunched the VPN Qube
after the changes it didn't seem to work anymore. There was no pop-up and no
connection. So, I changed the permissions back to what they were before, but to
no avail. Bad part is I tried to fix it by playing around with the permissions
on the other files and now I am lost.

I know I could simply create a new VPN Qube but I am curious to learn:

* What should the owner & permissions be on to be safest as possible but also
allow the VPN Qube to function properly:
- /rw/config/rc.local
-/rw/config/qubes-firewall-user-script
-/rw/config/vpn/pass.txt
-/rw/config/vpn/openvpn-client.ovpn
-/rw/config/vpn/qubes-vpn-handler.sh

Thnx in advance for any insights!

Re: [qubes-users] Per-VM stream isolation in Whonix

Isolating apps in the same VM is a different issue, but you're saying

Hmm, that definitely should not be happening. VM isolation is enabled
out of the box. Different VMs, whonix or otherwise, should never share
circuits. IsolateClientAddr (on by default) in whonix-gw's torrc
should isolate streams originating from different addresses/VMs, no
matter what OS or apps they're running.

I don't see that setting in
/usr/local/etc/torrc.d/40_tor_control_panel.conf or in 50_user.conf ...
which torrc is that setting supposed to be in?
